Fell in love with the album before I figured out that mythology shit.
@dimsim3478
I know this is really old and I only really found it because I was randomly surfing through pages of this thread, but I feel the need to address this.
While some(or hell, many) may have liked this album before they found out about it's legacy(as a matter of fact, I did as well. All I knew when I started liking it was that sputnik and absolutelpunk liked it, but I had no idea of the story it left behind), the point still remains that more than one person surely rated this a 5 because they thought "they have to"
People are sheep, create a good enough story for them and they'll convince themselves that it's true, that it's a fact, and the same thing can be said about an album.
Tell them that it's influencial, that it's super important and legendary, that it's godly and you can't fuck with it, and they'll convince themselves of it before they've even heard it.
I'm not saying this is the mayority of the cases, or even really a massive number, but a big enough number to matter.
Now, I'm not trying to knock this album, I love it(as you can tell by the 4.5), nor am I saying that anyone who thinks this is a 5 is wrong and a sheep, if you think it is more power to you, and I am not saying that this is the only album where that happens, I am 100% certain it's not.
I mean really, do you believe KID A and OK Computer would have nearly that many 5s had it not been for them being regarded as center pieces of popular music? would Jane Doe have that 5s had it not gone down in history as an iconic moment in underground music? Would Pink Floyd's albums(Animals, WYWH, etc) have that many 5s if Pink Floyd hadn't ended up being considered one of the, if not the, greatest band of the 20th century?
While you may say yes or no, I do hope you're seeing the pattern here: Almost every, if not all, album with a really large(mayority) of 5 votes have some kind of legend behind them, one way or another.
Can you think of an example otherwise? If you can, I would say it's an exception to the rule, but regardless.
I'm not trying to knock any of those albums I just mentioned either, I love 'em and even 5d some of them(Hell I may 5 this some time down the road), but to say the notes from them are not inflated is a little silly. People are sheep, they'll follow the croud if they believe they have to.
Oh, and I didn't even mention Alts...
