Album's a grower, and a rewarding one at that

I completely agree that Truant should've been split in three parts. Not Rough Sleeper though that song is perfect as it is.

I'm coming round to 'Truant' the more I listen to it (though I still always liked it), but it still has this kind of "scrapbook" feel to it, like he's ripping pages out when he's done and then starting again from scratch. Which is a really interesting way to approach music, or at least music that you've released, and while everything is certainly connected I'm not entirely convinced that it's the greatest of ideas

I'm sure Burial knew what he was doing and whatever it is, it's working. The samples in truant are pretty bland comparatively, especially in the first 'movement'. That's really my only complaint. Might have to raise it to a 4.5

I actually think the samples in truant are some of his best. Specifically, when the vocals actually say "Truant", it's just sort of a transcendent moment.

Around the time of Untrue he gave an interview where he said that he had one. The amount of money that he would make off stuff like this would certainly mean that he wouldn't starve or anything, but yeah he's not going to be cracking the forbes top 100 richest musicians list anytime soon

he didn't release any solo stuff in 4 years and he doesn't do live shows so I'd be surprised if he'd given up a job

i'd imagine Untrue sold pretty well, and i actually know quite a few people that aren't that into underground music that dig his stuff, so he's probably got a decent cash flow.

weird that he doesn't tour though.

he could make a decent amount of cash from touring, or at least doing shows every now and then. i know it's not really that common for electronic artists to tour (well as far as i know) but he could definitely benefit from it

Electronic artists "tour" all the time, just not in the worldwide rock star idea of touring. It's clearly not Burial's thing though; maybe it's part of the whole anonymity thing, or he doesn't rate himself as a dj, or perhaps doesn't want to be a dj/producer but just release tunes every now and again

And yeah he isn't that underground actually. And he's got a bit of a boost since he started releasing all these eps too
