Whenever I hear people say the lyrics are phoned in but then go listen to like cannibal corpse or like swans or something i can’t help but roll my eyes a little

Lol true, it doesn't bother me when it comes to lyrics in metal tbh.
All about the actual musicianship, riffs basically.

'There's heavier albums out there and everything, but this one has a raw aggression that is unmatched.'
God for real. That bit where Corey's like KILL YOU FUCK YOU I WILL NEVER BE YOU while Jim and Mick bust out a pretty nasty riff and Joey's dropping 19 to the dozen on his kicks still pumps me the hell up
Can probably count the amount of albums I can think of that are out-and-out angrier than this on one hand, at most two.

I have a distinct memory of being lent a copy of this by my friend and it was at that time one of, if not the heaviest thing I'd been exposed to. I popped it into my CD player, plugged my headphones in, and [515] scared me absolutely shitless. More innocent times.

I was 13 at the time and my mum had just bought me my first portable stereo.
We went the music store and I picked this one up out of curiosity, just remember something about the cover that pulled me in. I'd only heard one metal record prior ('Paranoid') and had idea what I was getting myself into.
When I got home I ran upstairs and popped this into the CD player and sat there on my bed waiting for the album to start. Like you said, 515 hit and I distinctly remember turning it all the way down cos it scared the living hell out of me.
My mum then proceeded to tell me that the music was 'horrible' haha, I put her through it for nearly a decade when it comes to metal.

Gently is probably in my top 25 metal songs of all time honestly. You wanna see how to write a fucking song, listen to Gently

Album Rating: 5.0
And yet gently wasn’t even written for this, simply re-worked. Go check out the mate.feed.kill. Gently, nowhere near as good as the Iowa version

Love how this album is just cleverly disguised emo-pop, and then on later releases they gave up trying to hide it 🤣

nah can't agree, this is balls to the wall heavy, anyone can say what they want about post Iowa Slipknot but the first two albums are heavy as fuck metal albums, too angry to be emo

how the fuck is this emo pop

Album Rating: 3.0
This is the genius thing about it, on the surface it appears to be brutal heavy metal, but the record company managed to package emo music as that as a selling point and it tricked the masses, it really is truly clever stuff
