album is sadomasochism, hated it to the point of dependency. had it as a 2.5 for over a year then flipped to 4.5+

I'd agree with that and your 2.5, this is just really jagged and boring rock music to me

I feel like I'm in a weirder position here thinking this is "merely" excellent
Been like 2 years since I jammed though aside from a handful of spins of "Eyesore"

The appeal is pretty huge tbh and I totally get why people click with this, it just grates on me

I do think Viet Cong (the album) is better than this
But both are great pp

I really like Vietcong

There's just a strange allure and sense of mystery to this that I think a lot of modern guitar music lacks. It's not the most inviting album, but there's a lot of beautiful space to start feeling out under that noisy veneer once you start coming to grips with it

Album Rating: 2.9
I like the mystery and atmosphere, it's just that the riffs and sound are really boring and ugly to me
|

Album Rating: 5.0
how the hell are the riffs boring here. time to reference one of my fav lewis quotes:
I connect with the guitars on Public Strain more than any artist, lyric, or else.
