It's got a rawness, an unpredictability, a scrappy charm
A lot of the songs on the Blue album I found irritating (though not all - it's still better than the new one and Raditude)
I've only listened to Blue and Pink once each but that's how they came across - I might revisit

Good to see that you prefer the superior Weezer album Doof

yeah ferro, who knows I might end up bumping and downloading a few songs from Blue and Pink - Rivers' voice is a lot less smooth than I was expecting and some times it sounds just plain bad and flat but it might become charming in time?
the closest vocalist I used to listen to with that sort of voice was the dude from the band Far. This still isn't really my thing but I can definitely see the appeal to it. It's also easy to see how easy it was for this band to go over the edge into amateur hour territory on a few of their albums, the signs are there even from the start

fars vocalist reminds me of the vocalists in sunny day real estate and mineral, who i guess kinda both give off a rivers vibe?

"If everyone's a little queer, can't she be a little straight?" is the kind of line that would only escape being super cringey if he was kidding. I wish Rivers was kidding on Pink Triangle... oh god why isn't it a joke song?

Disagree hard, love that lyric.

sure he might be serious but i kinda think it's cringey on purpose and on this album rivers somehow nailed it to sound actually good

I feel like trying to be cringey when not doing it for comedic effect is doomed from the start.

Hey, when I'm cringey in a serious way, at least I'm not trying to be. Accord to Artuma here, Rivers was actually trying to be, like what the actual fuck?

I don't know when cringe became such an in word to use, but I absolutely hate it.

Rivers isn't trying to be 100% serious here I don't think so. I've always taken the lyrics here to be kind of tongue in cheek

Yeah I'd hope some of these lyrics are tongue in cheek otherwise I'd be a bit worried for ol' Rivers.

"Accord to Artuma here, Rivers was actually trying to be, like what the actual fuck?"
well yeah i mean he prolly could've worded that a bit differently but i think he wanted to make it that way for it to be kinda funny or whatever and it works. i at least hope he realizes how dumb the line really is

I mean I know "El Scorcho" and some others are obviously tongue and cheek... but I don't know about "Pink Triangle" that one's more up to speculation rather than fact since it comes off as pretty serious and I don't know if Rivers is really much of a satirist.

Across The Sea is like completely serious which was a huge risk but it somehow works
