This one just doesn't let up for me, whereas Shogun has a bit of a dip or two. I'm probably one of the only people that isn't crazy for Shogun T/T. That's literally the only reason I have this higher.

I think Shogun has a perfect run on its first five songs. After that there are one or two dips and some good material, but then the title track is up there again. It's a really good record with some minor inconsistencies

Insurrection, Prometheus and Callisto are good jams, the other two mid-album tracks don't sit that well with me. Though I admit, the bridge in He Who Spawned the Furies rips.

I think I may be more prone to burnout on Shogun, but I think its highs are higher? Hmm. Time to rejam both and reevaluate.

i think this one has a lot of cools riffs but it's definitely way more samey in the melodic content than shogun and not quite as nicely produced. it's funny coming to this album way past the point most people heard it as i never grew up with this band but i think there is a lot of charm to their pre-vengeance falls material

This has always been my fave Trivium, as much as I love the highs of Shogun.
The Crusade was a huge disappointment coming off the back of this, I'd hoped "Anthem" was just a poor choice of single but it was creatively and musically a step back from Ascendancy.
The title track rips however, and revisiting it down the road it has a few solid tracks (Ignition, Entrance, Dragon). I enjoy every track on this one, although Dying In Your Arms isn't great.

this band's music became completely unremarkable after this album

Bands music became unremarkable between Shogun and Silence, save for In Waves (the song) and Strife. Also, The Crusade is fucking dope.

Dying In Your Arms kinda underappreciated imo. Also one of the best examples of a radio edit done well (along with Bittersweet Memories by BFMV), the extended intro and lack of screams make the song so much better.
