he went to the tony iommi school of "let the riffs dictate the song"

He is an amazing guitarist but in a lot more subtler ways. Man has penned some incredible riffs.

This album is as good as anything the band has ever done. Fight me.

I’ve always said he’s basically Tony’s protege. Those two aren’t total virtuosos, but goddamn they know how to write some mean riffs

Funny you mention Tony Iommi and Sabbath. During last summer's Back to the Beginning Sabbath Tribute, I think AIC's "Fairies Wear Boots" was the strongest cover, amidst real competition. They just got the FEEL so right. Course, Sean Kinney is an underrated drummer, that helps too...

I really wish they’d do a studio recording of that. It was killer but the best audio I’ve seen is just people recording it on their phone.

Better than Dirt even, for me.

Dirt simply did not conquer the test of time. Prob never listen to it ever again. The entire grunge movement as well for that matter.

Ya I wouldn’t go that far but yes, I do think this measures up to Dirt and Jar of Flies. Insanely impressive they were able to get together 15 years later and make something that’s just as good as their best records. Even now, with his solo records, Jerry just hasn’t lost a single step. Dude is a riff machine, and even by himself (with Greg Puciato I guess) he’s still able to create some haunting harmonies. I liked Brighten but was really happy to see him go back in a heavier direction with I Want Blood, tbh that record is almost as good as the core Alice ones, just doesn’t hit as hard emotionally.
Very glad he’s still around and kicking ass, I’ll listen to whatever he wants to make.

Dirt was overplayed. Don't ever need to hear Rooster again. Still, overall I think that album holds up. Would and some others are timeless. But the real album gems are Jar of Flies and Unplugged. Play those regularly. And "Tripod" too, although a tinch less.

It was Jerry. It was always Jerry.
Ok well mostly Jerry. But not too surprising that this is fire.
