The City by Dawn is some of the best drumming i've heard in the genre.

[3] Travels, Lost Ground, and Empty Days were seminal for me. Too bad they sort of beat the horse to death. They could have explored different concepts instead of sticking to the mid 20th century family gimmick, they milked it for all the compelling drama it had and it just became rote melodrama around Letters Home, which still had a few classic Defeater songs. I would have loved to see them doing a concept from the perspective of another character in another time period, maybe something more modern, and update the way they put together songs. Alas, what could have been.
