I love Pale Horses too, I'm just more of a Ten Stories guy. Those two are interchangeable in the middle ranks for me, however. It's also worth noting that I 5'd about half of their albums, so I'm not trying to diss any of their work (besides maybe It's All Crazy, lol).

it's all crazy does have the only mwy song that i fucking hate (fig with a bellyache)

but it also has some of the undeniable (imo) high points of their career. king beetle, as gyro says, has got to be in their top 3 songs.

I've always been a fan of their heavier stuff (with the exception of AB, which is just a little too undercooked/rawly produced), so it makes sense that It's All Crazy would rank near the bottom for me. Oddly, Ten Stories is a similar style, but I think because it's more indie-rock and less campy folk I tend to not care about the blatant abandonment of aggression.

yeh i get that. though i'd say that 'every thought a thought of you' is one of their heaviest songs

the end is pretty heavy with the chanting and horns. obviously there's no harsh vocals or heavily distorted guitars but something i think about a lot is when the members of sunn o))) described what was heavy to them and they said stuff like johnny cash. it makes sense to me.

It's a different kind of heavy and I get that. But obviously in a literal sense it doesn't approach Untitled, Foxes, AB, or most of PH.

My favorite song from Crazy isn't even that or King Beetle though, it's Allah. It's a pretty brave song to have written, especially in its time, and I love the celebratory feel. It's like the soundtrack to overcoming religious differences, or something.

The variety of It’s All Crazy is what I love. Like yeah it’s all more campfire tunes, but trying to compare King Beetle to Fox, Crow, and The Cookie to Every Thought is really difficult, but they all hit that same thread. I love that album. Minus Fig With a Bellyache lol. And I completely agree about Allah Sowing

Pale Horses is the only one I don’t return to often, except for Rainbow Signs and Red Cow. Still love it though

Never enough love for the title track! I know it's short and not a lot happens but damn do I love it. Pale Horses has actually been the album I've been jamming the most lately.

pale horses is the type of opening song that you just know is about to send you on a journey. not as overtly impactful as like Messes of Men, but along the same vein

Sweet, glad to see it getting some much needed love. It might be my favourite track on the album despite not being the deepest or biggest track. Red Cow and Rainbow Signs are up there too. Oh and Mexican War Streets and Lilac Queen.

Getting to know these guys' work has been great. Like if theres a how-to book on implementing faith into your music without being preachy and cringe-y, this and Anberlin's fin should be opening and closing chapters.

Yeah I love how he wrestles with faith sometimes too. I'm an atheist myself but I find theology fascinating.

Yeah very fascinating, his commentary on it reminds me of sections of brave new world.

I think it’s cause it’s so experiential and personal to him and there’s no sense of imposing spirituality on anyone else — If anything he actively tries to say that nothing he’s saying should hold any weight at all. As someone in a similar spiritual vein as him, I respect him a lot.
