Still a very inconsistent listen imo, but the highs are some of the absolute best in the band's discog
|
| |
but you’ll have to have them all pulled out after the Savoy Truffle …

GOAT BEATLES: Happiness..., Dear Prudence
VERY EXCELLENT BEATLES: Blackbird, While My Guitar Gently Weeps
ACTIVELY GOOD BEATLES: Back in the USSR, I'm So Tired, Julia, Helter Skelter, Revolution 1, Revolution 9, Everyone Blah Blah Monkey, Mother Nature's Son
HAPPY THIS EXISTS BEATLES: Ob-La-Di, Savoy Truffle, Sexy Sadie, Rocky Raccoon, Long Long Long
MEDIOCRE NO-ONE-NEEDED-THIS BEATLES: Glass Onion, Bungalow Bill, Cry Baby Cry, Good Night, Yer Blues, Martha My Dear, I Will
SHUT THE FUCK UP BEATLES: Wild Honey Pie, Piggies, Don't Pass Me By, Why Don't We Do It In The Road?, Honey Pie, Birthday
Notice how the bottom two tiers are 70% McCartney and the top three are disproportionately drawn from the first half of this stupid mess of an album

^ I would have put Ob-La-Di and Everyone... Monkey in the bottom tier tbh

last i jammed this long long long was my favorite here which humors me because when i was getting into this for the first time at 10 years old i mostly just remember being mildly annoyed at having to go over to turn up my stereo after helter skelter because of how quiet it was in comparison lmao. may have actually gone from my bottom 3 to top 1

The contrast between Helter Skelter and Long Long Long is beautiful lol. Both top-tier songs on here as well

@Bubs. The Beatles are forever. You’ll not listen to anything for a few years but something brings you back and each and everytime you realise they were the bollocks.
@John that is actually pretty spot on. I love yer blues though
@Koris Nobody dismisses Monkey. That song is an absolute top tier ripper.

Paul has a lot of goofy filler tracks on here but I actually don't mind them at all. The blunt stupidity of his random falsetto and yelping in Why Don't We Do It In the Road and Wild Honey Pie is mildly entertaining, if nothing else

Only tracks I hard skip off this are Bungalow Bill and Birthday, the rest range from very good to essential
|
| |
Album Rating: 4.5
Bungalow Bill is an always skip for me too, just a dull as shit song. Birthday gets a pass cause I'm a sucker for aggro raspy Paul vox

| |
Album Rating: 4.5
Birthday was, unfortunately, the first Beatles song I can consciously remember hearing, and it was via a stuffed bear that would sing it when you squeezed his paw. I decided then and there that I did not like that shit. Lol.

"MEDIOCRE NO-ONE-NEEDED-THIS BEATLES: Glass Onion, Bungalow Bill, Cry Baby Cry, Good Night, Yer Blues, Martha My Dear, I Will"
Martha My Dear is one of my favorite Beatles songs ever. Mainly because I think it's the most beautiful melody and chord progression they ever wrote
|
| |
Album Rating: 3.5
Martha and Do It On The Road both should be moved up a tiereach
|
| |
Album Rating: 4.0
Martha should be GOAT Beatles tier
|
| |
Album Rating: 4.0
Also Glass Onion wtf is that take. Should be Goat tier as well
|
| |
Album Rating: 4.5
Bungalow Bill is high tier when you’re find out it’s a diss track about a real person they met in India
Some American hypermasculine dude who paid to go on a safari to shoot a tiger and then bragged about it to John
|
| |
Album Rating: 3.5
doesn't make it any less cuttable - if Lennon wanted a good diss track, he should have written better music
Glass Onion is self-important fanservice and lightweight songwriting, represents a lot of the ego bloat that clouds this thing
> Mainly because I think it's the most beautiful melody and chord progression they ever wrote
pedestrian mccartney-isms all over the thing, rly unremarkable on both fronts
|
| |
Glass Onion is one of their worst post-revolver, so smug blah
Won't hear a word against martha tho

Revolution 9 is fucking woeful.
