"the irrational hate this band conjures up is just wot."
The songs suck (especially the last few albums); there's really nothing irrational about it.

The release of HTTK made it all too easy to make fun of them

Hail to the King had some moments, but for the most part it's just unoriginal hard rock.

The reason trve ones hate this band is because there are mainstream cult weirdos out there who sincerely think this band is awesome. When obviously they are not.

But it's also really shitty throughout. if i wanted unoriginal hard rock, I'd listen to alter bridge. At least that's done a bit better

Almost every band has hardcore fans like that, from Opeth to Arcade Fire. You can't really fault a band for something like that.

let's not forget, A7X hardcore fans are among the most ignorant. The band will change, but the ignorance won't, sadly.

Opeth are actually good and fanboyism is justified not a bunch of whiny scene kids that never heard of any music made before 2002

I dated a girl who thought A7X was godly. Granted I'm glad she listened to some type of heavier music as opposed to mainstream rap or something, but I could never get her to understand how badly they fucking sucked. Further, she thought their recent shitty album was amazing too and justified it as "what? it's rated like 4.9/5 on iTunes."

Well, you see that with other bands that have a primarily teen fanbase, like Slipknot and Pierce the Veil.

The A7X fans I know don't like HTTk that much, but forced themselves to like it "because it's Avenged Sevenfold".

I never listened to it because I'm quite positive it'd be a 1-1.5. She would tell me about how there were awesome evil chants or something in it and I'd be like "wow sounds sweet..." Obviously we're not together anymore.

Yeah, it's not worth your time. The 'critical acclaim' comes from their popularity now rather than anything else
Damn, I kinda miss Snide

I don't think there is any critical acclaim though. Just from the teenybopper hipster mall weirdos.

I'll admit I jammed A7X hard as fuck back in the days of the original Halo game. m/

It's kind of genius from a advertising standpoint, first ripoff metalcore, then generic thrash/classic metal mixed in, then generic heavy metal to gather every scene with each album.

Yeah if you're in the business purely for money then it's a smart approach. If you want to be an artist and create art, then not necessarily.

I think A7X has proved countless times which route they're going for

No doubt about that; honestly there's part of me that doesn't even disagree with what they're doing. If anything disappointed though because I think with Waking the Fallen they may've found a style that could straddle the line between commercialism and decent music....but then they abandoned that rather quickly.

M. Shadows wanted to do clean yet gritty vocals anyway. I think it was just their natural progression. Don't like his screams anyway
