Sinister isn't a word I would use to describe this band.

Pleasant like getting attacked by those wannabe deku scrub tree dudes in Dark Souls.

Fair, I think it's the type of album that you need to sort of be in the right mood for, kinda like a lot of atmospheric bm i suppose

Everything else they've done is 4 or higher. Debut and Black Cascade are both borderline 5's.

This album is an easy 5 for me. Black Cascade 4.5, Diadem 4. All three are awesome, Celestial Lineage is probably a 3.5. It has its moments for sure but as a whole I don't find myself coming back to it often.

"What about it don't you like?"

the structuring of the songs is all weird. There are two interlude pieces and then one atmospheric intrumental-y piece and squished between four tracks, which makes it run really awkwardly (the instrumental one isn't good, either). Prayer of Transformation is an aggravating track to finish an album with given it's completely different stylistically than the rest of the album and doesn't go anywhere to boot (the live version has something resembling a crescendo, but only a little bit), and Astral Blood winds down and ends exactly where it feels like it should explode back into black metal for another four minutes. Thuja just sounds awkward to me, and Subterrenean Initiation is good, but it's not good enough to offset the other complaints. It's a 3.5 max imo if you really like their style of bm and can ignore the wonky instrumentals like most people for on Sunbather.

Thuja is a fantastic song, Astral Blood is real good, but others are meh and it is very oddly organized. 3.5 agreed.

Diadem is the one that always bored me for some reason. I never understood how so many people see it as a crowning achievement in their discog, it never clicked for me
