Incorrect hex. I dig a lot of old school death metal that doesn’t aim to be unique. Dead Congregation, Left Hand Path, Intestine Baalism, Xenomorph, Abyssal, and many others are great. The main problem with Cannibal Corpse is that they fail to execute their ideas in an interesting or compelling way, for me at least. It doesn’t necessarily have to be unique, but the sound should be able to evolve while still retaining an identity for me to enjoy. Cannibal Corpse doesn’t have that. To me, Cannibal Corpse is stock death metal. You can enjoy Cannibal Corpse and that’s fine, but I find the band extremely dull and uninspired. For Ulcerate, every album I’ve listened from them has their own unique identity and ideas in place, even if stylistically they may be similar to each other. But as long as there is some form of evolution in place, I can respect that even if the content may not be entirely original. Cannibal Corpse doesn’t have that trait, therefore I don’t respect them. That doesn’t mean I don’t respect you as music tastes have almost nothing to do with who you are as a person (especially when I used to like Cannibal Corpse), but as tastes change, so too does perspective.
