I mean I love the songs you mentioned but as a whole they have never released a full, cohesive album like this since Sunbather. I like NB and OCHL. They’re a wonderful band. But lord NB and OCHL are too wonky for me to be good as full albums. This and Sunbather are goats; a Sunbather and a Moonbather if you will

as far as I know, Deafheaven's set at Psycho was meant to be pretty similar to 10 Years Gone. George has said in some interviews and such future shows will be a "healthy" mix of Infinite Granite/older material, alongside the possibility of them playing Infinite Granite in full.

Man.. I just wanna see and hear the new songs live. Such a shame this band get way to much shit for just trying new things.

@brushedred i think ur right for feeling that way man. i think Judah's is their best album by far and one of, if not thee, best modern bm album. this album just reminds me a lot of Lantlos' new one, treading a very, very fine line between bland/boring and great
@ashtiel makes sense. i think it would've been a nice healthy mix if they added something like Villian or Obama instead of shit like Baby Blue/Kettle. hell, throw in Black Brick man. couldn't imagine that type of transition

RtJ could be some of their best work if they had rehashed it as a sunbather EP or redone it and tacked it onto sunbather. The main problem I have with that album is it’s production quality. It’s fabulous but man does it sound muddled compared to what they’ve come to be. When they redid Language Games on 10 Years Gone, I was in love. I wanted more. I bet Tunnel of Trees would be orgasmic if they’d have done that. I want to love RtJ more. But I just can’t til it’s updated. Everything Sunbather and beyond have fantastic production quality so I try to keep RtJ out my arguments.

But the fact is that the band is one of my favorite right now and the fact that I have 2 5’s from them: this and sunbather and the rest are 3’s should say a lot. The band has had enormous potential. I think they found it here. It takes everything they’ve done in the past and cranked it up to 11. Really sucks others didn’t see it that way but it’ll just have to be an underrated gem for now. But Alcest did the same thing and I still stand my ground that Shelter and Souvenir are their best album too

the shit recording makes it good =] give me wall of sound bm/shoegaze any day
think that's my biggest gripe with this release: his vocals are just too forward. i love the Davey Havok sound, but it gets hella claustrophobic at the peaks.

I can respect that. RtJ is definitely quite a statement. I just think it should be brought to life in this decade. They’re not far removed still. They’re still redoing that music. It’s not like the band has abandoned everyone. I think they’re awesome and I love their versatility. Overall, they’re easily my top right now, even if my scores don’t reflect that overall.

I just do have to say that it’s quite amazing how people can be negative on this but when you look back at RtJ and Sunbather, there are so many instrumentals and transitions that are so similar. I’ve always said this is a clean vocal Sunbather; still stand by that statement. Album is so underrated for real. If Sunbather is the intense radiation one gets from the sun; Infinite Granite is the comforting refuge; everybody loves a yin and yang

Johnny's 2.9 rating must be getting some shut-eye.
