check the ocean for some of the best and diverse post metal out there. early stuff is sludgy and hardcory while later releases get more into a progressive direction.

later albums? you mean just Vertikal?

I'd say both this and Salvation are this band's true examples for the genre. They're about the same for me, I just love Salvation more cuz I heard it first, it has more of Klas the vocalist, it sludges more, and it has more songs, and that's basically it. The difference for both depends what you look for. This has their own take on a isolated, countryside, and oppressively lonely atmosphere. but Salvation has this profoundly immersive, urgent, existential atmosphere (nearly-religious if that's your take on the themes)

"countryside"

I really like that, cause that's exactly the imagery I get in my head when I listen to this.

The Ocean are great, but they often have some obnoxious moments in songwriting that don't have me with it. Precambrian did have me wanting more until they declined.

and the thing is with Wolves and Altar of Plagues is that they already had a genre name: atmospheric black metal. which is also why atmospheric sludge metal is a thing.

Vertikal is their most industrial album for sure. But tracks like the t/t from Eternal Kingdom also displays a lot of industrial influences I'd say.

I had better check The Ocean some day. Still don't know why I haven't done that yet.

As long as there isn't too much prog influences. I'm sure I'll like The Ocean as well.

Lol nice to see some more post-metal fans on site. This section was almost dead. Still CoL hurts my mind, so much contradiction after this album.. Guys lost the edge here.

nah, they just changed up their style. Some tracks on EK and Vertikal still hit just hard as some of their other material

I've never liked the Ocean. I've always found them lacking both in atmosphere and in songwriting.

Full, make sure your prioritize hearing the Galilean Satellites. Listen to the two discs seperately and then together. It's probably a top 5 album for me.
