"This is objectively heartfelt. I'm going to process the secretion of a single tear through the corner of my one eye now. Will dry itself there though."

Listening to their debut after this is such a colossal disappointment.

Brah. I mean, I agree the debut is no comparison, but it’s still a solid 4 album. Check out Mean Everything to Nothing and Simple Math. Cope is solid too, but def their worst.

Idk I don’t find this album that emotional except in certain parts (bad pun intended). Production, songwriting, melodies are really on point but I miss Hull really pouring everything out on the big climaxes like on the early albums. I don’t think he has a great singing voice at baseline so he’s not giving much in terms of intonation and expression on here

Also cope blows and is a 2 at best, definitely the opposite of solid

Debut did little for me, although I have no shame in admitting that indie usually needs bells and whistles to keep me interested.

Check out pale black eye off simple math. One of my favorites from these guys

Hell yeah Chan. This album is in my top 5 of the entire decade and it's the best Manchester Orchestra album. This was my album of the year in 2017 even though Brand New released their final album, so that says something.

i always liked it but never really gave it my full attention and consideration, i guess. there are so many moments where either the instruments or the backing vocals sound like screams. it's really chilling and affecting.

This is prob in my top 3 for the decade. It seriously never gets old at all for me.

I agree and it's one of my favorite things about it. Just feels like this ongoing emotional torment.

Same. This has hovered as high as my #1 AOTD but I'm just not sure if it's quite unique/experimental enough to grab that honor. On the other hand, it's so damn emotionally moving that I may just decide I don't care and hand it that award anyway.

Honestly, meh

It could honestly be my AOTD as well. I’d have to look at a list of all my 5s the past ten years though. Fear Inoculum would certainly make my top 3 as well but I am admittedly a Tool fanboy.

This is easily one of the most enjoyable indie records I've heard in the last couple of years (which is essentially the period in which I've moved away from the broader genre). I might even bump.

I don't know about this being AOTD when it wasn't even my AOTY and how stacked this decade is, but it's a clear stunner
