"I was going to listen to all of it, honestly. Got distracted. I'll persevere."

Yeah this is decent, I’ll see if it grows on me. Definitely infinitely more interesting than PC at least (although that’s not much of a compliment). Fair bit of meandering but some cool stuff too, deserves a little perseverance if nothing else.

Generally speaking, their live releases are fairly decent.

The difference in quality becomes even more apparent live.
The metal becomes better, and the prog becomes more boring.

It's the other way around tbh. The prog songs sound better than the inferior versions of their older metal material with weak growls.

The two times I've seen them they were great. However, this was Ghost Reveries/Watershed era, so before all the prog.

All that pesky prog

The metal just works better live. I could add an imo but I hope it's not reallly necessary.

i agree with jamie here, their newer prog songs are way better live than on the albums and their older heavier stuff feels tired.

What I'd give to have seen them on the Ghost Reveries or BWP tour

There is some nice songs here for sure, although the first half is so dull, at least that Organ hook in Sorceress is really damn catchy, second half is way better, instrumental part in Sojourn is really cool, Strange Brew is so emotional, Glance is pretty af, Era is meh.
Best songs are absolutely The Ward and Spring tho

Just to clarify, I was basing what I said on live recordings I've heard rather than actually having seen them live.

they were just as tight those three times ive seen them as on the recordings

Nice. I also think Axe seems more suited to their non-metal material than he does their heavier songs, which is odd in a way as he's historically been more of a metal drummer but I think he's found his niche with the style of drumming he's been doing post-Watershed.

Mikael’s cleans are like a fine wine, he definitely keeps improving.
