Bruh how can you say it takes forever to get going when The Moon/Awake, The Most Cursed of Hands/Who Am I and The Revival are all in the first third of the album.

No discussions of their new music? 2 singles out already and an album in just a few weeks.

The lyrical concept for this new project is really intriguing. The lyrics on Ring 3 are so powerful. “How to feed the hungry mouths? On second thought, fuck ‘em, they’ll figure it out”

Yeah the concept is nothing new but I really like the vigorous approach and diverse palettes they’re using to convey it

I listened to The Color Spectrum a lot growing up and I've heard Migrant which is pretty good, but for some reason never got into the Act albums despite the critical acclaim. really should

Both songs were more interesting to me than they were overtly catchy or memorable, but I'm okay with that. Definitely interested in the story the lyrics will tell with this album.

The concept of the new album reminds me of something like Final Fantasy 7’s Midgar or that Justin Timberlake film In Time. All about wealth disparity, where the city is structured as rings, where the outer rings (Ring 8) are the poorest and the inner rings (Ring 1) are where the rich live. Ring 3 stood out to me instantly lyrically, it being reflective of the upper-middle class, with the first half of the song doing an amazing job at reflecting an entitled, elitist mentality where the narrator is angry at the poor people for whining about being poor. Then towards the end of the first part he sings “time will pass”, and my read on the second half of the song is that over time the residents of Ring 3 got so comfortable with their wealth, they have wilfully forgotten about the poor (it talks about not seeing past their window) and are just chilling and enjoying their wealth. The cha cha slide bit at the end was jarring to me at first but thinking of it as upper middle class people loudly enjoying their privilege and fun, it kind of fits in.

That’s my read on the lyrics anyway, could be totally wrong as I’m not generally the best at deciphering lyrics. As with other Dear Hunter stuff I’ll probs end up reading a comprehensive summary when the album is out.

Verse 3 is a good one:
They talk of famine, they talk of drought
They should be happy that anyone’s hearing them out
Look at them whimper, look at them wheeze
Alienating the ones they are meant to appease
But their gratitudes all but default into platitudes
And they still suspect we’ll give them more
They leave a-swarming then perish, wondering why?
Waste not your time, fuck ‘em, they’ll shut up and die!
These lyrics are so fucking good. It’s rare that a song connects with me lyrically to the point where I really feel the anger in the words.

Yeah those lyrics are great. And I absolutely adore the dance-bit at the end of the song, it's almost uncannily disturbing displaying the joy of the upper class juxtaposed with the suffering of the lower class

not feeling the new one too much. so far it's like a whole album of Mr Usher's. like sure that was fun/cute for 5 minutes but 50 minutes of it is a l o t

Hm, not feeling the Mr. Usher comparison for the new one honestly. Not really getting any pseudo-big band/swing vibes from much there. Definitely feels like it'll be the most polarizing LP so far though, like if you're not into the exact sound they're bringing then it could grow old real quick.

Ring 4 probably the best example of that. I couldn't wipe the goofy ass smile off my face for pretty much the whole runtime but I could easily see somebody less invested cringing to that track.
