Goon Squad > Phantom Bride (Don't feel this song)

Swerve City = P/T

Leathers = Doomed User

Rosemary is just a bit better than gore.

Yeah, this still doesn't do a lot for me.

every song sounds so devoid of the emotional intensity that makes snw so great. in trying to sound all "i shat this vocal melody out and you're gonna like it bc it's me" like he seemingly did a lot on white pony, he ruined pretty much every song on this. that could also be the atrocious vocal mixing and that GOD damn robotic reverb effect on the vocals

Agree with the vocal melodies, Chino isn't as interesting as on previous albums.

he wasn't interesting on KNY either though lol. His vocal performance is sooooo contrived at this point.

I've tried hard to like every subsequent Deftones release but for me nothing comes near to Around the Fur or White Pony and I think it's partly down a decline in the quality of the lyrics. Every word just seems like an excuse for Chino to drag out the pronunciation "Trrrrrriiiiiiannngllles". Still love the guy though, good memories of seeing them at Reading festival.

Chino sounds very uninspired in their last two records, agreed.

Chino has always used sort of unconventional vocal melodies, that's the main element that makes Deftones interesting to listen to, because instrumentally speaking they are hardly superior to your average rock/alternative band. It's the synergy between Chino's vocals and the instruments that have earned them all the acclaim.

Sure sometimes it sounds like he pulled an impromptu vocal hook out of his ass but more often then not they work and add another dimension to the music.

With all that said I agree he sounds a bit subdued or uninspired on this one and Koi No Yokan, but he's still the highlight of the band to my ears.

Chino's a good singer actually. I don't know where you got that from.

lol I'm not saying he's bad, I'm just saying that he's sounded miles better in the past, tbch.

Just compare his vocal delivery on SNW, DE, WP, ST and ATF to this.

Bruh anybody who thinks Chino was phoning it in on KNY is fuckin deaf

On this, maybe. Funny how I've heard just as many people criticize him for 'trying too hard' on here, though

Anyone who hasn't listened to Crosses yet should. Chino literally carries that album on his shoulders. Solid electronic rock too.

I need to hear more of his side projects. I jammed Palms for the first time earlier this week and loved it.

Nah, Chino is still solid. I just don't appreciate much how his vocals were produced here. The robotic voice thing in Acid Hologram is good, but there are songs where the added reverb is just too obvious and rather puts his performance down.

I would agree Deftones aren't really impressive instrumentally, but other than Chino, I think Delgado plays a bigger role to their sound. Digital Bath, for example, is all about Frank's nuances to me.

I don't think the band being instrumentally impressive fits their sound, I don't think that's their goal either. I've seen videos from like 2000 of Steph sweep picking on youtube. They are capable of going that route, I don't think that's what they are trying to be though.

Guess I need to hear Team Sleep. I overplayed the Crosses album because it was so fucking cool. I thought they were coming out with new material also.

I have a bit of a bias towards Palms because Isis, but Crosses is awesome. Don't really remember Team Sleep all too well.
