In Absentia got caught between the worst of Stupid Dream's alt rock obsessions and some mostly ham-fisted attempts at metal. This one's sequencing is strong enough that the heavy sections carry momentum and, with a couple of significant exceptions, the lyrics are largely non-cringe for casual listens. In Absentia has some great content for sure, but it drags its feet for a good half of those 70 minutes (and FOABP is almost embarrassingly better as far as cheesy metal PT goes)

This is (apparently) a notch above the others I’ve heard... that’s probably incorrect though. For the record - In Absentia, Lightbulb and Signify.

This one is more accessible imo, but I still like it a lot. My man Gavin Harrison is el fuego

Signify is better than this tbh, but that one's a grower

it's incorrect if you've heard stupid dream, the sky moves sideways, and lightbulb sun

Up the Downstair/Yellow Hedgerow/Sky Moves/Signify/Stupid Dream/Lightbulb Sun are all > anything they’ve done since, but this one’s still a damn good time, backside of the record is ace

I think their metal era has my favourite albums by them, but all of their eras are good whether it's psychedelic, alt rock, prog metal, pop

Fuck, all their albums are gorgeous. I don't think I've jammed whole discographies the same way like PT. I can even jam OTSoL in aa good mood, because Radioactive Toy is so brilliant!

This is like a perfect balance of amazing prog, metal, and pop/alt. rock. I slightly prefer IA just cause of the perfection from start to finish while being very musically diverse, whereas some of the shorter tracks on here don't do it as much for me.
