One of the greatest albums ever recorded. I'm not a big grunge guy, more into thrash metal and the like, but this album slots in my top 10 all time. I would argue, like many of you, that this is more sludge metal/doom metal than it is hard rock or grunge. At the very least, it has metal tinge to it.

It certainly does, but you can clearly fit it with other grunge acts.

Was referring to the metal tinge thing. I can see his point with the doomy sound, but this isn't doom d'oh.

SG had plenty of a metal edge to 'em, and TAD did too, so it's not like having metal elements made you non-grunge. I find that logic a bit silly tbh.

Dude the only people who ever said "let's form a grunge band" "let's have a grungy sound" were the Bushs' and Creeds of this world.

Grunge was not a musical style it was a tag banded onto the youth culture of the time stemming from the Seattle rock scene.

I always considered the grunge element to have a sharp metal overtone. To me, grunge was a punk/metal fusion, and most grunge bands just had their own mixture of the two.

I consider grunge a genre unto itself, but I guess it doesn't matter if it is or not.

Pearl Jam was easily the least metallic of the Big 4, then I'd say Nirvana was slightly more metallic (although they were more of a punkish band in general). AiC was fairly metallic, and I'd say SG was most metallic out of 'em.

It's all perception though.

All four definitely had elements of both genres though. That's why I consider grunge a tangible thing.

I think the fact that PJ was least metallic has to do with them not being too popular on the site.

Some people don't seem to like Vedder's vox and I can get by people not liking Gossard's riffs or understand them not digging McCready's lead style.

Well, of the four, I guess PJ is my least favorite, but I still love them, and Ten rules.
