I don't really like most sad indie

I mean elliott smith/interpol and a few other artists could jump off a cliff and i wouldn't care too much(imma regret saying that about elliott in a few months tbh) but this is just gold Boney

I barely listen to much sad boy indie, but the best stuff are among my all time favorite albums, like by Radiohead and The National. It can be a pretty broad genre too, I mean a lot of Nick Cave could be seen as sad indie rock.

Adolf this is a lot less silly than their others though. There's a lot of dark, poignant moments like the opening two songs.

Songs like Tiny Cities and The Cold Part are just oozing with coolness and aren't that depressing though. Then you get to a song like Lives, which is a compositional masterpiece with playing around different musical moods in such a short run time. There's really tons of variety here, but yea not all of it is sad.

People should know by now that silly is the worst possible word to use when trying to get me to try something.

" and The Cold Part are just oozing with coolness and aren't that depressing though"

Okay I get that the part where he says "I step down - as presi-dent of annnnnnntaaaaaaartica" is cool but that song is pretty depressing tbh

Their latest two or three albums have a lot of silly moments, but still a lot of amazing lyrics and great instrumentation too. This though is one of the deepest albums I've ever heard, deceptively so in some cases, which might be why some see it as silly.

Wild Pack of Family Dogs is somehow both amusing and kind of sad to me at the same time.

Wild Pack of Family Dogs just seems like an extension of "The dingo ate my baby" in a way that's both funny but also pretty deep

Exactly, this band does that kind of thing so well.

Yeah The Cold Part is pretty bleak sounding.

The last 30 seconds of "Tiny Cities Made of Ashes" has pedal steel (I think? Or at least something that sounds like it)

Also "silly" is one of the last words I'd use to describe this or The Lonesome Crowded West, maaaaaaaaaaybe a couple moments on Long Drive at a push
