"I have a feeling that he's been heavily influencing DT's modern sound and excessive noodling quite a lot"

Said it before and I'll say it again. he needs to use some different sounds now cos that signature keyboard synth of his is overdone beyond it's maximum enjoyment

"Even the weaker songs on FII aren't that weak compared to post-6 Degrees DT standards."

I couldn't agree more. FII does have it's weak spots, but they're still not that bad in comparison to the weak spots on Train of Thought, 8V, and SC.

Btw, the live version of Hollow Years that's on the Budokhan DVD is extremely good as well.

their darker stuff was the best. disc 1 of six degrees and train of thought are the only things worth going back to

Never disagreed with you more. Bar a few songs Train of Thought is kinda embarrassing, partly cos they were trying to sound more metal which just didn't work at all. It's one of the albums I go back to the least, the weaker moments pretty much sum up everything that is wrong with post-Scenes DT. Plus the wank on that album somehow sounds more unbearable than it does on most of their other albums.

"DT was one of those bands I grew up with but at almost 20 yrs old now I feel like I've kind of outgrown them"

I discovered them when I was 13, and Opeth around the time Watershed came out when I was 14.

Both were my favourite bands throughout the first half of high school, but DT really grew off of me once I started getting into Prog rock. Same with Opeth but to a lesser degree because I still jam earlier Opeth fairly regularly.

14 year old me would have hated Opeth. I got into PT and DT when I was about 10 or 11 and only at the end of last year did I get into opeth

DT are the worst out of the 3 right now though

I wish I had gotten into DT when I was 10.

At that age, I didn't listen to much besides AC/DC, Van Halen, and Kiss.

PT are the worst out of the 3 by a mile for me.

What makes you say that? PT are a million times better. The emotional aspect and the atmosphere of their songs is more appealing

Agreed JT. PT are inconsistent as fuck. So are DT but their best work >>>>>> PT's best work easily.

@Choccy: lol, I don't think I really need to explain. My hate for 80% of what Wilson does is pretty well known on this site and I've gone over it many times.

The only PT albums that are arguably bad are Sunday and The Incident but I wouldn't call them inconsistent either. They reach more highs than DT has

Ahh fair enough JT. SW is just marmite and I suppose if you're in the hate part of it, there's no way anyone is changing your mind

I don't hate Wilson but I find him extremely overrated. Especially the first half of the PT discography which I've never understood the love for except for Lightbulb Sun.

They have a lot of bad albums imo. Fear of a Blank Planet for example is horrendous.

Wow, the first half of their discography contains the only 3 PT albums I like and Lightbulb Sun isn't one of them.

I'm all for the latter half of PT's work cos I worked backwards after getting into them during the release of FOABP.

Whilst he does have his evident flaws I wouldn't necessarily call the work with PT overrated. Solo career should Stop Swimming and Drown With Me for all I care

Haha JT were opposite on PT as well as Opeth what the fuck. Well, at least we agree they aren't as good as DT or Opeth.
