Blew me away in high school, with how cathartic and visceral the macho rockin’ was, how atmospheric the production was, and how the two could coexist. None of that seems as special now

Still the best thing Homme has done in his entire life.
And he knows it.
Deep inside.

"Blew me away in high school,"
Indeed, this is so nostalgic. I suppose your high school days were traumatic?

Guitar tone is still great, as are the riffs themselves. The vocals grate a bit now. Almost sounds like a parody of that 90s macho rooster style. If I wanted to hear vox like that, I could listen to literally any all male high school rock band.

Maybe that’s part of why I prefer Queens. Homme can do creepy, sleazy, heartfelt, deep and earthy, falsetto... his voice adds colour and character to the song around him. Garcia isn’t nearly as diverse a singer
