3.5 is the ceiling my dudes, found parts of the album a bit of a trudge on my long awaited revisit

"I've heard Napalm Death's first 3 and last 5 albums, still need to jam the 6 or 7 in between, but everything I've heard is great. Def a band worth diving into."
Scum is awesome. Harmony Corruption rules. Enemy of the Music Business is their best imo

I listened to Scum & thought it was a disastrous mess, in an amusing way though... so it had that going for it.

Comments on the original vs remaster of this? Which is better/should I be listening to?

I didn't even know there was a remaster.... will definitely check it out. Some people don't like them, but I'm all about remasters.
|
| |
I like them when they do a good job at them... For example, I prefer the Death remasters over the originals by far, but then shit like Megadeth or Iced Earth remasters come to mind so i never know. Often remaster = louder, compressed, which is also poop
As a rule of thumb, usually can't go wrong with originals

Oh yeah, the Megadeth remasters are crap because MegaDave made the vocals louder and even re-recorded some of them.
The Iced Earth recordings where he replaced the vocals and drums was a cool idea (the original vocals were terrible), but it wasn't executed very well.

If you mean Days of Purgatory, yeah I don't mind that so much especially for the stuff from the first album, I was moreso referring to the remasters of Stormrider and Burnt Offerings they did c. 2002 or something, where they strip a lot of depth in the production and removed parts of songs.

Yeah, Days of Purgatory was the one I was referring to. The vocal change was good, but the drums sounded weak and didn't really blend with the original recordings.
I've never heard the remasters of Stormrider and Burnt Offerings. Burnt Offerings is my favorite Iced Earth release, so I might check out the remaster. Did you ever hear the re-recording of Dante's Inferno they did with their current vocalist? It's not bad.

I haven't, I'll check it out! Love that song

I don't even remember the last time I had a love at first listen as hard as this. Like I'm not a death metal kinda guy but the balance of technicality and melody and the heavy fuckin riffs with the more traditional heavy metal influences is literally breathtaking.
