Mendez's bass playing is really underrated on this album.
it's buried in the mix too often

It can get buried yeah but the moments where he pops through are mostly memorable.

agreed
he has a really great moment on the t/t too towards the latter half

Love this albums production but it is a wee bit too polished at times.

Same problem with Ghost Revs but the songwriting on both overshadow any production issues imo m/

Ghost revs is a bit clearer, the nuances cut through a lot more especially with the drums and bass although the drumming on here is pretty simple as is

In terms of production, MAYH or Still Life are probably Opeth's best.

MAYH is perfect production wise.
And agreed 100%. Every record from here up to Heritage was overproduced I think.

listen to the 5.0 mix of this, everything really sounds amazing, you can actually hear the bass and the drums have some punch to them

I have the special edition that comes with the DVD, but I don't have a stereo system that plays 5.0 :/

Album Rating: 4.5
title track is not the only great aspect about it, its just the culmination

Album Rating: 5.0
Yeah, it's perfect.

Album Rating: 4.5
That's really my only gripe with this, that the bass gets pretty swallowed in the mix, but everything else is well beyond satisfactory so I can forgive

Production is horrific and so is most of the song writing here. Watershed absolutely blows this away in every aspect.
TLA and title track are still GOAT songs though.

Production is meh, agreed.

Dat a bold statement there good sir, tbh the only thing that bothers me here in terms of production is the snare. Title track is GOAT though.

Album Rating: 4.0
It's a bit too "clean but muddy" for me, and there is something I don't really like about the harsh vocals here. Production is ultimately what keeps my rating this "low", it makes the album sound like it drags.
