Boulevard of Broken Dreams just doesn't have the same impact when it's the shortened version. Without the long, drawn out, progression at the end, the song loses its impact of being lonely, depressing, and unending. It needs that, I think. At least when I saw them live, they played the full thing. The latest live performances on TV, they've been cutting it.

Just a comment which I feel should be made in light of the numerous anti-Green Day messages appearing here. It is immeasurably easy to say that you dislike something, but to just say that you dislike the album and/or band without any further explanation is wholly inadequate. We don't really appear to have had a single coherent argument regarding your negative opinions towards Green Day's music. That's all for now.

Both the singles I have heard off the radio so far (American Idiot and Boulevard of Broken Dreams) have been terrible.

They are catchy though.

I think Boulevard of Broken Dreams and American Idiot are the worst songs on the album, so you really shouldn't judge the album by the two singles. Jesus of Suburbia, Holiday and Letterbomb are much better representations of the album, so check out those songs if you think you might be interested in buying this CD.

I don't really like Greenday's new image. Their music has changed way too much.

Did you just contradict yourself?

Muscially, they're not amazingly skilled, they write catchy songs, isn't that the point of Greenday?

Personally, I like them a lot, almost the only band I listen to out of the pop-punk crop anymore. This album was disappointing in the bass depertment, as already mentioned, everything else seemed fine and to usual Greenday "standards" musically. The album wasn't their best, IMO, it has some good songs, I do think they pulled Jesus of Suburbia off, which I was suprised at considering it's length, the album was a success from that standpoint. This album is pretty good, where personally I think Dookie was really good.

While this new style maybe dosn't do for me what Dookie did, I'm glad they're constantly changing and re-evaluating their sound, no two albums have the same feel which is one of the reasons why I still listen to them. :thumb:

I wouldn't go as far as saying that... but it really annoys me when people say hous much they like Boulevard of Broken Dreams and American Idiot... they are highly overrated though... The song I like the most on that album is Give Me Novacaine. And I also like She's A Rebel.

Excellent album

When I bought this album I was expecting a bit more from it... I myself (my opinion so don't go off at me) but I thought it was pretty awful. American idiot is a strange, yet catchy song - once it's in my head it's hard to get out. Boulevard of Broken Dreams is probably my fave. Love the music (not Billie's singing) in that song. Some other songs are good, but most aren't. Out of 10 i'd rate the album 4/10.

I bought tickets to Green Day and Simple Plan's concert here in Australia, hope they sound good live.

Does anyone know whether they do?

Even though im not much into bands who sing about political crap, this cd is awesome. its something different for greenday, but it also spells out something better for their future

no with the song american idiot, it isn't political, it is a good intro song, if you know what it means, the song is about this kid, Jesus of Suburbia, who hates his parents and than into the song Jesus of Suburbia, when he runs away to live behind the 7-11 where he met St. Jimmy, thats the real meaning of the song, just they made it seem like it was political

If you like greenday you may not like this. It is a more popish vibe but the songs are also great. I would rate this cd from 1-10 i would give it a low 8.

Really, really awesome album. How many people other than me noticed the time change from 4/4 to 6/8 in the third bit of Jesus of Suburbia?

I personally think Jesus of Suburbia and Homecoming are two of the best songs to come out of that particular brand of punk in the last ten years, artistically. Also, the album flows extremely well.

It is really impossible to judge the album by it's singles thus far, because American Idiot and Boulevard of Broken Dreams are possibaly the two simplist songs on the CD. Really, it's an unfortunate stab towards the "12-year-old-kiddie-punk" audience. The actual album is far, far better, to those who are judging it by it's singles.

To those who are judging it over it's apparent politics, a) Holiday and American Idiot are the only two overtly political and Anti-Bush songs on the album (although there are nuances dropped throughout the record), and b) maybe you should question your motives, and consider the fact that you may be an ignorant conservative twit controlled by the state media who should catch AIDs and die. Just an opinion.

I would give this album a 4.5 out of 5. It's definitely not perfect (kiddie-punk singles,) but it's probably the best material that they've put out in a long time.

To clear a few things up that were said in the beginning, AI was made after the three decided to start talking to each other and opening up with their fellings to each other. The songs may sound weird because Billy used to stop writing songs that the Mike and Tre in his mind rejected. The band also decided to make a "mature" sound because, after all, they are 33 and all have kids from existing or previous marriages. And if you didn't really like Wake Me Up When September Ends, Billy wrote it for his dad, who died when Billy was young. If you don't believe me, then go read the Rolling Stone interview.

!Legendary CD!

This is probly the Sgt Pepers Heart Club Band of my generation. THink about it Greenday is THE biggest band in the US right now, dont try to disagree with your favorite band I mean I wish Crossfade were the biggest band but Greenday is the only thing to beat out Rap of charts.

Anways great review man i woulda gave American Idiot and Whatshername a better rating but nice job.
