@markjamie - I definitely see how its unfinished/unpolished state can attract people (and especially hardcore fans) and it's an interesting project because of it, I agree. But here is where @ShartHarder's comment fits in: there's been a lot more time and thought into its marketing and promotion and "image" than the music itself, so much so that it makes the album feel like it was made with the marketing of it in mind first before the songs came up as an afterthought. And not much would be needed in my opinion, just more time in the incubation process to iron out the obvious blemishes in the songwriting and instrumentation.

And I get it, having an album be unflitered and unpolished and have sounds and characteristics that make it ugly and uncoventional has the potential to hook you with its rawness. But hasn't Charli always been like this (at least since the Vroom Vroom days)? I think the difference is that she had a challenging and fresh approach back then (a party-girl attitude with abrasive hyperpop soundscapes with *just* the right amount of occasional emotional confession so as to not write the whole thing off as stupid fun) whilst now this isn't remotely refreshing or surprising or challenging. And maybe I don't like it as much because of its relation to her previous "subversive" material; like Crash before it, what you see is what you get and as such, its impact is low.

The existence of 'SS26' and 'Camera' and even the closer (and 'Wink Wink''s chorus) show that there was something compelling here so I can't write this off as outright catastrophic. I like messy art, but I also like songs and this album doesn't have enough songs to hold on to, just the messy attitude and themes.

Seriously though lol this is kinda wild. A bunch of accounts that haven't been active in years are all coming back with the same ratings.

Like I said Panos, I am not a massive fan and paid exactly zero attention to any of the build up to this save for listening to the singles. I did quite like her back in the True Romance days but never loved a whole album... and while I appreciated How I'm Feeling Now and Brat, they were just too polished and lacking in personality for me to fully connect with.

But this is different, it feels like the alternative spirit of her early stuff combined with an assured rawness. And there's nothing like this out there at the moment; for me it IS refreshing and surprising and so much more enjoyable than, say, Underscores and Slayyyter.

Works for me anyway... sucks it doesn't do it for you.

Panoschris- Agree camera and wink wink are probs the better cuts here and enjoyable even if I wish they were still more fleshed out

Mods do something about the bots rating this 1. This is hands down one of the best albums I've heard this decade and it's not fair that the bots are rating this 1.

Few things frustrate me more than ss26, that chorus is one of the loveliest things she's done =/

And that's great @markjamie - super glad that this one works for you and, like I said, I do see the appeal; maybe this will grow on me with more spins.

Btw since you mentioned it, still haven't listened to that new Underscores album

@Panos whilst you're at it, check out Kim Petras' Detour after U (if you haven't already). U is probably the better record but I find myself returning to Detour more often.

@ConorIsNotHere - on it! I've been meaning to check out both of these albums (especially Kim Petras') so I know I have to and I will.

This is fine. Feel like it needed more time in the oven to expand on some of its it's ideas. Or some songs needed another minute of run time.

The 1-2 punch of camera and 2007 is my favorite here.

@Smash - They got cleared out by the mods already lol. A few hours ago, the averaged dipped to like a 2.5 out of nowhere because of like 20 new 1's that all got added at the same time.

In fact - those accounts are the reason Taylor Swift's 'Midnights' is trending right now. That, or 12 random people really did JUST discover the album today and all collectively gave it 5's.
