yeah woof man. there are some true stinkers on here. really brutal listens. they honestly sound like scrapped owl city songs lol. i understand autotune as a tool but man i despise that fully computerized singing sound, so unpleasant to my ears. daisies actually sounds much better going back haha! the snyths and electronics on jeanet are especially irritating. whatever the hell is going on these songs just doesn't work.
i respect how ambitious it is though, lots of ideas but they feel so scattershot and slapdashed. i can actually see this sound be smoothed out and work. the two songs that smash that style together oxygen and now that i listen again daisies kind of work (steve pointing out the lyrics are intentionally vapid helps!). wouldn't have hated an album of that. numb tv superstar i kind of respect with how off the wall that club beat is. very alien combination but i didn't hate it.
last four songs is where it becomes wildhund again which i didn't mind at all. planets and clockworks are by far my favorites. i love the kind of almost britpop jangle planets has, super catchy. reminds of cocoon tree house. and clockworks is awesome, sounds so much like something off koi no yokan.
one of the oddest albums i've heard in a while. hard to settle on a score. really dig how experimental he is and doesn't really care what others think. agree with much of what steve is saying in this review but toned down a little. hope he explores this sound in the future but really streamlines it. there is something that works here. at the very least it gets your mind thinking! i'd take a full album of oxygen and daisies. that actually does feel like the right combo of pop and metal.

i was just so caught off guard lol. like someone slapped me in the face. but after listening now i get what he was going for. especially compared to the outright pop songs here.

Thats why I made my own tracklist for the album. I think the pacing improves somewhat if you move some songs around.
1. Daisies
2. Oxygen
3. Cherries
4. Numb TV Superstar
5. Solar Death
6. Planets
7. AutoGuard
8. Clockworks
9. Ghost
10. Windhunter
11. Jeanet

I'm gonna say...this has the same set-up as Fear Inoculum where you have gold interspersed with crap you won't ever come back to. Better to excise what doesn't work and keep what does for future listens.

yep those are the exact ones. although i do find numb tv superstar very interesting even if it doesn’t really work.

I think its because it could be a decent alt rock, 90s grunge influenced song if it wasnt for the awkward heavy use of electronics and if it had actual drums driving the song

i like the idea of a dancey club like beat in a metalish song. i'd like to see that thrown in a song like oxygen. there's maybe something there. hope he keeps pushing the limits and experimenting.
