Def need more listens

Feels a touch too vocally driven but tbh Karnivool vocalist has maybe the most emotion I've ever heard in prog metal, there's an actual sense of color and vibrance to it.

I hate that this got overshadowed by Converge (no hate, that new album is also fucking awesome). It's just that rarely we get something a good as this after a very long hiatus.

"Feels a touch too vocally driven"

True. Instrumentally is not as technical as Sound Awake, but the songwriting overall is superior here imo

I feel like it won´t take them too long to make another album.

I always flirted with Karnivool but after this album, I’m happy to fuck with them. This is great.

If there's one flaw in this record, as well as arguably their entire career, I feel that it's how dominant the vocals are in each composition. I like the guy for sure, but I find this genre is better served when the vocals are sparser

I´d usually agree with this statement, but I think that it works with Karnivool. Kenny is fantastic, and I can´t really imagine the band without its prominent use of vocals

The drumming in Aozora is insaaaane. Judd is life.

"The drumming in Aozora is insaaaane. Judd is life." Lowkey one of my favorite modern prog drummers

Yeah my one complaint with this band is the vocals are a bit grating.

I think he’s honestly much better here than on Asymmetry at least.

@keaton_86 Ian Kenny is a decent singer but he was never my favorite part of this band. I think that's the reason why I never really absolutely loved anything they've done before.

Here, though? He's far more reserved and technically proficient. This is by far my favorite vocal performance of his and that's why this is my favorite Karnivool album already.

i think i like this as my favorite karnivool too. no chaff, all bangers, grower, restrained, yet with the signature sound awake sound

Yeah but there’s just something off about the way he annunciates his words. Like he doesn’t sound Australia but also sounds like he’s trying to mask the accent? Always found him to be a weird but decent singer

Could be a number of reasons not hate to aussies at all haha
