i do like this as a straightforward bm album but i do hope they dip back into more experimental stuff for their next. that's where they are at their best, love that each had a distinct feel. esoteric warfare is definitely my favorite since blasphemer left.

Glad you like this futures brother. But i think i may have to slap a 2.5 on this. Just went back and listened to daemon and it's crazy how much more fun it is

yeah i get it eak. attila just adds so much more me, one of a kind vocalist. and hellhammer too. both just elevate the material.

Honestly, they were part of my disappointment here too. I felt like they phoned it in as well. Of course hellhammer is a hell of a drummer so he'll never sound bad. I owe it another listen though

"The guys are starting to show a few signs of running out of steam, to be quite honest, and while there are still plenty of bangers to be found, a bit of unoriginality is starting to creep in."
I don't feel that, they've been improving like crazy since Daemon (were great live as well when I saw 'em a few years back for the first time!). That Ordo ad Chao / Esoteric Warfare-era really sucked.
This is veering on a 3.5 for me... maybe just because of the opening track + cool riffs overall

I take it you hate innovation and great musicianship

I wont lie. That was me in 2007 just because it was so different from what they had done. But i realized i was foolish

I think you should check 'Grand Declaration of War' :] arguably one of the most innovative and bold releases in black metal ever

Grand Declaration does rule, but not as hard as Esoteric or Ordo.
