I actually had to drop it after spinning it again and then listening to the first two right after. They both crush this things dreams XD

The one before this rips, but I like the variety here more tbh. Still gotta jam the debut which I will do before the end of the week.

I think there's actually less variety here, definitely than the prior one. Them sort of isolating and partially breaking off the softer side of their sound makes it seem like they changed things up more than they actually did. It being more blended and layered in the first two worked better.
I still love these guys though.

Ahhhh, we just have to disagree on this one bro. One of the few times we disagree tbh lol.

Haha it's rare for sure!
Actually though, speaking of which, I'm surprised you didn't like the new Invictus album as much as I did. I think it's basically perfect for what it's trying to do. Better than like 95% of the DM I've heard over the last 5+ years.

Dang this thread has been busy. Guess I need to listen to this

Okay, so I gave Jord a listen to compare, and it's actually startling how much better that record is than this album. What a dramatic shift, and I don't think for the better.
Again, I'll spin this at least once more before slapping a number on it, but there's no way this one is better than that album.

@MTO yeah, debut is awesome. The follow up might actually be slightly better even, overall, but the title track/closer of the debut is like a 1000/10 track and really elevates the album by ending it so strong.
They both beat the pants off this imo. If I had heard this first I probably would have liked it more but I already knew what they were capable of and they fell short here.

This one is reminding me a lot of Violet Cold so far. Great stuff but not anything mind blowing so far. But I'm only about halfway through now but enjoying enough to look into their older material once I'm done

Violet Cold is actually a good comparison.

VC has a WAY broader soundscape across their discog than these guys though so it depends on which album haha.
Personally I don't really hear too much similarity.

It's been a while since I listened to VC but from memory this pulls from a lot of similar influences (post BM and blackgaze as the base dipping into straight post rock/shoegaze at times with electronics thrown in) and shares that upbeat/positive tone that a lot of VC had that pissed off the BM purists lmao

Can't help but feel slightly disappointed by this as I adore their first 2 albums, but it's in no way bad. Garland is such a good song my god. Probably need to listen to this a few more times

havent kept up with this band since Diorama but they rock, appreciate you autists for letting me know they had a new album I would have had no idea.
This thing fucking shreds. riff lord shit. idk how much i will revisit it but man that first listen through was thrilling

Second half of Garland is really good.
I think Young and Mimic are the best tracks here by quite a bit and that's because they sound the most like stuff from the first two albums.
