Absolutely love this.

This one's a real treat. The slow, dirgey tracks are excellent.

Saw them last week in Southampton. Great venue. High Parasite just seemed like a parody band and was odd watching Aaron in the context of this band. The album is okay, but didn’t really feel it watching them. Messa in comparison were amazing and actually the highlight of the night for me. A blend of jazz, goth rock and a healthy dose of psychedelic black sabbath doomy grooves, and of course her vocals. PL set list was a great journey through their career - once solemn sent the crowd into an absolute mosh pit frenzy. They put on a great show and the guitar work was sublime, but some seriously shaky weak vocals throughout. Strangely, Nick’s growls were fine but it was his cleans which were surpassingly inconsistent. No Celebration was particularly bad. But overall they put on a blinding show, interacted with the audience well and Nick cracked a few jokes here and there.

* surprisingly (not surpassingly)

Vocals felt like they were too low in the mix - probably done on purpose

Set list: serpent on the cross, tragic idol, true belief, one second, once solemn, Faith divides us, pity the sadness, beneath broken Earth, nothing sacred, tyrants serenade, requiem, mouth, say just words, encore: no celebration, ghosts, silence like the grave

Awesome setlist! Can't wait to go see them finally. I guess it was expected that the vocals might be a weak point, Nick is like 53 and I don't expect him to knock it out of the park. Still I don't think it'll affect the experience much for me. Gotta get into Messa finally too, they've been around for a few years now but I never gave them a chance.

Despite the misgivings around vocals it was still a stellar show, and like you say, he’s getting on! Pity the Sadness had the whole crowd singing. The final two tracks of the show were a perfect end.

Are these guys huge in the UK? I got that impression when I looked at their tour dates.

Considering how influential their career has been, I feel they’re definitely under appreciated in the UK. They should be filling stadiums imo.

^^Gothic/death/doom metal is too much for the average Brit so as to fill a stadium for Paradise Lost, I'm afraid.

Deeply sad when a band like architects can but PL can’t.

^^Don't be man, Paradise certainly aren't.

This is ridiculously satisfying. Massive credit to this band for being so bloody consistent.

The female backing vocals on Lay a Wreath.. elevate the song to another level.

They have a fairly sized and dedicated fan base (as do all the Peaceville bands) but yeah it's not much compared to the octanecore that absolutely dominates metal airwaves in this country
