"The only thing the opener is good at is being terrible."
It is indeed a horrible track, so bad, that is making me not wanna listen to this album... and I love BTBAM, but that track brought me Coma Ecliptic PTSD.

I’m really not exaggerating when I say that is probably the most annoying song of the decade. It’s so clear that these guys are all extremely gifted musicians, but good god that song is just so fucking stupid

Long time BTBAM fan. Really liked the singles honestly. Had they been strung together in a Colors/P2-style fashion this would have been incredible. Unfortunately I think some parts of the album are a little too Between the Circus and Me and just annoying to listen to. Cutting out God Terror, Door 3, Mirador Uncoil and Slow Paranoia makes this way more enjoyable and digestible at 46 mins.

I liked Coma Ecliptic, and I liked this. I think The Great Misdirect might be my favourite in hindsight, but I think some of y'all have some seriously hyperbolic hatred for these fellers. It's just fun, groovy prog.
Between the Circus and me goes crazy - lmao.

Hilariously, I find myself at the opposite point: I find the opener to be so catchy and fun, and it's been stuck in my head for days. It's just kind of a weird choice for an opener, in my book. Though I'm not sure what other song from this album could have been the replacement.

"things we tell ourselves in the filter" so true
"It's just fun, groovy prog" Yeah and I'll take something as fun and colorful as this, flawed as it might be, amidst a sea of one-note metal and non-adventurous prog

It's true--I've watched Hawks hate this band on here for like 13 years lol

Yeah and it’s pretty irrational lol

Someone get this guy a job at Long & McQuade, or whatever the American equivalent is. This level of hatred needs to be directed to where it can do some good - lol

Like at Black Veil Brides or something lol I’m not even the biggest fan of this band but they got their shstick and it’s there when I need that itch scratched. Informal Gluttony is a forward thinking jam

Yeah. There are a few BTBAM tracks that are unequivocal bangers, imo. I find that hard to reconcile, but to each their own.

Guys....this band sucks. I hate them. I'm very sorry, but I can't fake it lol.

I would argue that they're just very good at making music you hate. 8-)

The opener isn't my favorite song here but I love the blend of Yes, Talking Heads, and even some solo mid-80's Peter Gabriel. Cool opening track for me because they haven't opened any of their other records in that fashion. The title track hits at just the right time as well, with that and the closer probably my early favorites.
