this doesn't touch the first 3 tillian records imo

there are 4 tracks on this that live up to the first 3 Tillian albums. The rest is slop.

Revisiting their discog again - okay Mothership is better but I still would take this over the rest of the Tillian albums.

Doesn’t hold a candle to DBM1 and 2

They have never and will never top the DBM albums, but they did to great in the Travis era and even early on with Tilian
|

Unpopular opinion apparently, they simply got worse with each album in Tillian era:
Acceptance Speech 2.0 > Instant Gratification >= Mothership >>> AS/AB/JJ
I actually think this album is a step up from their last 3 albums

Nah, i totally agree, man
But i like the original AS for some reason over the 2.0 version

Apparently a new album is already recorded

Listen, DGD was my favorite band… so I say this with great pain…
But they just don’t got it anymore. It’s just nothing but gimmicks and failed call backs. They needed Jonny or Tilian. No one else can fill their spots. Andrew just sounds like he’s trying to be Tilian the whole time and it’s just lacking. You can tell they changed the instrumentation to make up for the lower vocals… but the songwriting just isn’t there…
And the lyrics on “A shoulder to cry on” might just be the dumbest lyrics I’ve ever heard. I get embarrassed in an empty room just listening to it.
I really hope the next album they just be themselves… be DGD with Andrew… this sounds like DGD with a big Tilian hole in it.
The last song is decent though… which kinda just pisses me off even more, cuz they’re obviously capable

DGD will always be one of my fav bands but thats just because of their earlier releases
When you say they needed Jonny or Tilian and no one could fill their spots i do see where youre coming from, but at the same time they made some real special albums with Kurt Travis despite him not having the same vocal chops as Craig, Pearson or even Andrew.
Andrew is a good vocalist also but for some reason he just doesnt fit outside of a few moments on this. I do suspect most of the songs from this were meant for the unreleased Tilian album they recorded before the allegations etc.
ANdrew does show promise on the Tree City Session songs that are out tho

Must add that Andrew shows great promise on the new Tree City Sessions

I prefer Happiness over most of their other releases and ST was rock solid. Kurt rocks.
Andrew sounds GREAT on this Tree City 3 release!
I am going to revisit the 5 songs that I liked off this, feel like I didn't give them enough time.

Animal Surgery and Strawberrys Daughter are the two with the most staying power on this in my book but the productions holds it back a bit

I dont think Andrew sounds good at all on the short sample of TCS3 songs I listened to, he just cannot hold the chops that Jonny has. His voice sounds so processed.

though I respect that they actually included WISIRO on it, burning the nicotine armoire is a bop.

I feel Andrew does sound good trying to imitate Jonny rather than Tillian

My thoughts exactly, Cormano
And vult TCS3 is worth a listen and dont judge it by short samples alone. Andrew did a good job on it actually and im not that of a Andrew guy either on DGD or Eidola

Will sounds surprisingly good on the live renditions too lol

It sounds like they are having a lot of fun and still loving playing all those songs which warms my heart

I love the fact that it's pretty much deepcuts and simultaneously some of their absolute best tunes save for Eagles Vs Crows that tracklist is pretty goated I'd probably replace it with Elder Goose
was so excited when I saw Reprogramming Mental Preprogramming most underrated dgd song and one of Kurt's best choruses
