Slowly going to listen to this album piece by piece as opposed to one sitting since it's just too much to dedicate to atm. Been throwing on a song when going on a walk but I gotta say the opening track is extremely solid.

It's not very usual but I have to say I completely agree with Fantano's take on this record (just would increase the rating a little bit).

after having spent some time with this album, the only good thing I can say about it is that it's better than the beggar and that's about it

doesn't touch the first four post-reunion albums and probably isn't as good as leaving meaning

back to the trilogy I go

The opposite of pika’s take is almost guaranteed to be true so yeah, birthing > most of the trilogy. I personally thing the only album of the trilogy that comfortably surpasses this is To Be Kind

Wild take, I actually really like this album but still don't think it comes close to TBK, The Seer, or Glowing Man.

I respect that opinion for sure, the trilogy is massive! I spent a LOT of time with live rope so my anticipation for this was off the charts and I feel like it delivered in every way… except that I prefer the LR version of the title track. Some of the oomph is lost in the studio version and cutting out the BAP BAP is a travesty before Satan.

All that being said, I’ve always felt TBK was so far elevated above the rest of the trilogy and stands as their high point post-reunion.

BUT The glowing man title track is their best single song of their reformation era, including this album imo.

I def. agree with this.
Though what I would give to see Swans release another album in the vein of Filth or Cop again. Not sure Gira would be able to pull it off in this day and age, but I'd love to hear him try.

Would certainly be a curveball. We expect Angels of Light, we get Filth and Cop

Still feel it's a little premature rating an album this immense however, I'm loving the first disc especially and will most likely get bumped with time.

I've listened a handful of times and still haven't fully processed it. But I know it's fucking amazing.
