Portnoy growls would've at least made this more entertaining. These guys have just been running on a treadmill since A Dramatic Turn of Events and Labrie isn't even the limiting factor anymore.
Edit: They fell off the treadmill for Astonishing I forgot that was a thing while I was typing this.

LaBrie is LaBrie but i think this has been his strongest performance in a minute

Out of Reach ez

Out of Reach kinda blows (and I say that as a fan of DoT overall), so I'd definitely go further back than that. Far from Heaven, perhaps?

fucking hell labrie sounds like shit on here

Far From Heaven really blows imo lol. I love Out of Reach Though. Benetah the Surface, that's the best ballad on Dramatic Turn of Events, maybe we can agree on that one?

Out of Reach is amazing and Petrucci’s solo in the beginning of the song is top notch

I really don’t think LaBrie sounds bad here. Like others already said, he sticks to his current range, which suits the heavier tone of the album. I do think his melodies are a bit routine though, making it all sound a bit more paint-by-numbers than it might actually be.

Was really uninterested in listening to this, but i gave it a chance, and holy shit it’s actually really good.

Just saw the Philly show last night. God the band sounded super tight, Portnoy behind the kit looked and felt great and their live sound was organic and energetic
(no clicks, minimal backing tracks). It was cool to see some natural push and pull, some tempo changes, and some added beats and jams and fills here and there. There were even a few mistakes (mostly Portnoy funnily enough) which added to the humanness of it. Labrie brought his A-game too, I just wish the setlist was a little more inspiring for a “40th anniversary” tour

damn what did you not like about the setlist???
will be at the DC show and i'm pretty psyched for that set (even if i really do not care for dark eternal night or this is the life)
will say i am kinda shocked they aren't playing any WDADU songs considering dominici passed away recently

@Alex (setlist spoilers)
A lot of it was great, it just wasnt as all encompassing as it couldve been? I'm nitpicking but there was nothing from SDOIT, BCSL, WDADU, only one song from the Mangini era (understandably I suppose). Meanwhile they played 3 songs from I&W, and like 5 from Scenes lol. Hollow Years was cool to see but also an odd pick imo, I like This is The Life but there's soo much cooler stuff from ADTOE.
But I will say the setlist flowed smooth as butter and had a great energy to it either way. It was cool to hear some of the new singles live as well.

Was at the Philly show last night as well and can confirm that the inclusion of Hollow Years and This is the Life was a bit of a head scratcher. I forgave Vacant with its transition into Stream of Consciousness. Chefs kiss moment. ;*
