This seems like the logical sequel for EAT, big fan.. didn't expect it to have such a good reception ngl

this is just the Bring Me the Horizon sound but it's 2024 so why is this sound still around
|
| |
def the best alt metal release from friday
|
| |
kinda just a BMTH album, feels lacking the weirdness of I Disagree and way more radio friendly / mainstream
|
| |
Yeah I agree with BMTH comparisons, no doubt at least partly a courtesy of Fish, but of the four songs I've heard they all sound like that band with Poppy's vocals. Might give the whole thing a shot soon anyway tho.

As someone that really does not fuck with BMTH outside of a few tracks, I’d totally recommend it

I really only hear the modern BMTH comparisons in New Way Out. Beyond that it doesn't really use the same melodic conventions or atmospheres and her vocal style is obviously very different. The production is comparable for obvious reasons but the similarities kinda stop there.

Nah this completely sounds like Bring Me the Horizon, everything apart from the vocalist. Which is perfectly fine.

Halo, cost of giving up, title track and vital are the standouts for me.

Top three for me right now are probably they’re all around us, title track, and push go’s still my highlight
But this is one of those albums where my favs will likely be changing very frequently

A few days later and the shine still hasn't worn off. Gonna bump my rating a little.

Right there with you Odal, been spinning it frequently and still haven't reached the point of oversaturation. So far it has the perfect amount of accessibility of pop without getting sickeningly sweet. Nothing is being reinvented here but it is just a fun jam overall. Definitely surprise of the year for myself.

Quite decent, this. However, it makes me all the more interested in understanding what Fish is going to bring to the next Architects record. I'm keeping my expectations low, however.

I loved this after one play, but I have some issues after revisiting. Mainly, this is like a tribute band playing no cover songs: it heavily borrows elements of bands like Deftones, Birthday Massacre, etc, and then it more blatantly rips off melodies or mannerism of bands like Linkin Park, Disturbed, and more. Even when it feels more like a homage, it still is severely lacking in identity. Jack of all trades, master of none. She has a knack for writing some lovey vocal melodies and catchy choruses, and I do enjoy a lot of the tracks when they’re on, but I think this one has diminishing returns. Like a sugar high you come down from all too fast.

Well said gyro, very near my own thoughts. I appreciate its potential to draw in fans who are younger and/or not as well versed in heavy music, but I think to anyone with half a clue this isn’t anywhere near original or exciting enough to merit more than a handful of listens before moving on and not looking back. Essentially a one night stand kinda album.

Ive been jamming this and Thy Catafaque for the most part the last few days

the middle of this does open up with a lot of variety actually. its sonically still BMTH-y, but its about as good as a pop /mainstream metal record gets in 2024
