easily best part of the album

i'd say i am dog now and funny man are weak for singles, which is a typical strategy you see nowadays. then they dropped masc to showcase the top end and get everyone hyped

glad they didn't use shame or the new world as singles because they would have felt played out and weird as part of the album. i have a bad habit of overplaying singles to death in the months heading up to release, but in the case of masc it's so fucking good it doesn't matter

Masc is unfortunately still the best song on this by a long shot, but the other 2 singles are both in my bottom half

the final 20 seconds are my favorite moment from any song this year

really shook me to my core as someone who wasn't even sure they were going to listen to this

Hearing Masc as a single release effectively got me to take this band a lot more seriously yes

Also, I've not said this before, but Luther Manhole is a sick alias.

God's Country is also sick, but I'm enjoying this more so far.

Lots of varying opinions on this one lol. Gotta give this more listens for sure but at this point it's not even close to GC.

God's Country felt a lot more immediate while this is a grower for me.

Re the jank/memeage on God idk that gave it a lot of its charm for me, though ig if it falls on the wrong side of the endearing / irritating line for you (doof/yo) then the saner optics of this are gonna be preferable

Only given one spin an hoping the more consistent atmos/pacing here works well over multiple spins. Need to unpack lyrics properly as well.

A lot more post-punk stuff going on than I anticipated but it's all pulled off really well.

To me it feels more early career Swans whereas God’s Country was more mid career Unsane or up tempo Jesus lizard idk I haven’t heard enough of either of those bands or this album to stand by that comparison lol

Yeah i couldn’t stand the jank on the last album; “grimace smoking weed” was one of the worst songs of 2022 imo

grimace is one of the most uncomfortable experiences i've ever had listening to a song before

which is likely the intention

I started off with this being around a 4.3-4.5, it's definitely a grower

and once you unpack the lyrics, it's insane
