if geordie greep said "this was inspired by broadway" then obviously your comment or at the very least the tone is pretty silly/misjudged fundamentally
if he didnt then it might still be or it might not be but it definitely is if he said that
problem is I dunno

this kinda sounds like broadway

nothing Greep has/hasn't said about broadway (and fwiw I can't find a single interview where he references it by name) will make treating musical theatre and plays as interchangeable any less of an eye roller

Pointing out something is theatrical in a genre that is inherently theatrical has always just sat weird with me

I really do have Cocky Disney Villain as my reference point for "holy, holy"--obviously not far off from bway standards but i guess a more specific thing that I'd have to think about

This will be on Broadway in like… 2 years.

Just when I think I want to listen to another album, Greep pulls me back in.
Bongo Season really feels like less than half a song, don't know what's going on there. The Magician overrated and there are a few lyrical duds scattered around, but some real gold too. Terra and Holy Holy back to back is so good

I kinda like bongo season the most behind blues lolol. Guess that means this album’s not for me? Magician kinda sucks tbh

Haha I really vibe with Bongo Season and the roughly three lyrics there really strike me, but I don't get it as a song entire. Blues is dope though ye

I don’t understand the Bongo Season hate tbh, I think those twinkling guitars over the Brazilian groove are beautiful, and it’s satisfying as they drift into momentary dissonances. I understand that lot of the material here is super dense in comparison but it’s still nice. Kinda like an interlude.

This is not bad tbh

the funniest thing about Bongo Season is that it apparently stretches out to over 10 minutes in a live setting

" i really do have Cocky Disney Villain as my reference point for "holy, holy"--obviously not far off from bway standards but i guess a more specific thing that I'd have to think about"
My point exactly

Whatever the case is, the vocals are the main thing preventing me from enjoying this and/or Black Midi. Though i do appreciate the big King Crimson influence, and the instrumentals in general
|
| |
His vocals can be annoying sometimes tbh but yea instrumentation is good although a bit forgettable and the lyrics are kinda mid too.

This album is fucking incredible what the fuck

Pls release instrumental version thx

Idk why but i have a feeling his name could easily pass as a Deathcore artist name too

can't believe I nearly swerved this entirely because of the Black Midi label.
I greatly prefer this to anything by that band. I love the flamboyant, highly theatrical vox, this wouldn't be the same without them. The instrumentation is vibrant and engaging, if a little exhausting at times (especially with the run-time), but I guess that may be easier to digest on repeated listens. Still, some of the influences are v cool
One negative; these lyrics are gonna take some getting used to. Whatever the narratives are here(?) I was cringing plenty on the first run through (it's possible context helps alleviate this somewhat?)
