Honestly, a quick skim of the rym and sput top 25 for 2024 chart reveals

1) a lot of shared DNA (tbh this is the main takeaway)

2) obviously way more NPC metal albums on ours, but (based on those I'm familiar with),

3) surprisingly, way more actively awful and/or embarrassing albums on the rym chart (JPEG, new Parannoul (lol), Vamp Weekend, pedestrian af new MJ Lenderman, fucking Bladee), many of which are pushed up several places by sheer number of overall ratings

4) a couple of Very Cool How Did This Get So Far albums on both (Alora Crucible, Hammok, and ig Skee Mask and Saidan here vs. Papangu, Iglooghost, the labyrinthine 5hr new Jaar, and perhaps that Uboa album I still need to hear on rym) — but the rym features are arguably more impressive precisely because of how many overall ratings they had to rack up to land so high, which maybe redeems 3),

5) a pop 'bias' on the rym chart that doesn't really extend beyond the podium and isn't as entrenched as the metal bias on our chart, and

6) #1s that speak volumes for the overall site demographic and work as general site mascots (State Faults is obviously pure sputcore, and this is slick and impersonal in a way that fits the rym meta much better than Brat or ig Cindy Lee did)

would give it a blow-by-blow list if it weren't for the royale being on, but tl;dr I don't think either chart has a significant advantage over the other (although our #1 is far superior for a change), and I refuse to do the same for AOTY fuck that site forever

I do love when this site complains about a pop bias on RYM and we have countless metal albums in the top every year lol

Plus tbh it's quite impressive that this album is rated so highly on there with so many ratings, I love it

All three sites agree that the Maggy Bay album is better than Brat (although Sput is close - 3.82 to 3.81 when I wrote this) so that's a win in my opinion.

And Sput's overwhelming metal bias makes it far more niche than RYM's supposed "pop bias".

Having said that, as much as I enjoy Imaginal Disk, it is not as great as the RYM and AOTY ratings suggest; it's like an 85 or 86 album for me and Sput's rating is reasonable.

v much doubt that this gets anything close to brat's ratings total or matches its score within even 20 ratings on here

I was really surprised to see Mercurial World is 7 minutes shorter. This just feels tighter to me (probs helped by the strength of the last 20 minutes).

And yeah... given the amount of Bratlove on Sput and the fact the Brat review has 94 pages, I didn't expect Imaginal Disk to have a higher rating... but it does (currently at least).

Pretty much the A24 equivalent of the music industry, and the damage it will inflict on music (American especially) could be irreparable. "Artistic vision" in the shape of PUKEDIARRHEA- dirty, soulless and excremental. I thought that pretty much nothing can beat black midi albums on the purposeless scale, but here I am listening to this shit, WOW.

Brat feels a bit too long at 15 tracks (haven’t heard the deluxe) but this is just right
