i don't think you're really saying anything here doof. of course fantano is gonna monetize his videos and make a career out of it if the opportunity presents itself. do you really think sputnik writers not getting paid is a choice they make because they're just fans? if the money was there they would go for it

I don't think people are jealous necessarily. I just think it's interesting how easy it is for people to place themselves in a completely different category than others and put themselves on a pedestal despite doing the same things

Colton - Fantano works hard, most people aren’t thick or naive enough to not realise there’s a world of difference doing it casually and then doing it in bulk, to a deadline, with growing expectation, and of course a popular critic faces criticism and some of the issues associated with fame. If you make it your living you need to remain popular - so pressure to conform, fan service, etc can make you lose integrity too.
It’s certainly not for everyone, having been a contrib here I found the minute I got that title then writing went from ‘fun’ to ‘sort of a pressure/chore’ overnight.
I do believe he works hard for his money though. In fact I’m surprised he doesn’t make a bit more money.
I love writing but I’d hate to write for a living myself, had friends who have worked in journalism and it’s a brutal existence

Today I've listened to it again, still don't get the hype about this one. So that's that.
I won't post another comment here until my opinion changes. Not even if someone's dissing my precious glasses.

i don’t really see how that comments ties in to anything i said tbh doof

You presumed people here are jealous of Fantano or otherwise dislike what he does despite themselves wanting to express their own ‘poor’ opinions about music (you singled out the worse/less popular writers here yourself)
No one else in this chat is making that same connection is all.
I don’t think it’s some bitterness against Fantano I just think some people don’t hold him in high regard or hold much stock in his influence. I don’t think people here would want to monetise their opinions if they had to go about it like Fantano to achieve that.
It doesn’t look easy, it looks like work, relatively low paid, and you get called a melon.

‘fair point demon, I mostly meant wannabe reviewers like yourself’
I’m definitely looking to make waves with my three reviews in all the time I’ve been here. I know you know this and are just baiting and so I hope this mild and inconsequential response was worth your time

I’ll be be wearing the ones with eyeballs on springs.
Doing zany reviews and being on the cut and thrust of it all hollering into a camera reviewing the latest gumpf.

I settled on a 3.5 for this after about 10 listens. "Bending Hectic" is amazing and definitely the highlight which seems to be a mostly undisputed opinion. "Read the Room" and "Under Our Pillows" are both excellent jams (those two most represent the sound I'd like to see this project lean into more, I guess there was more like that on the debut so perhaps I should revisit that one as it didn't really click with me at the time). The rest ranges from forgettably decent ("I Quit") to enjoyable while they're on but not particularly memorable (the opener and closer) to very good but missing something extra to bring it to the great level ("Teleharmonic" and "Friend of a Friend"). Those latter two I had hoped would grow on me a bit more but they still haven't done so at this point. Had those two clicked more this might have clinched a light 4.

This is very impressive.
Structured and subtle. A good album to have 40 winks to. It’ll be an album of the year.

I have not slept more than 6 hours since I had my first kid and at this point I would kill somebody to have just one midday nap.
