“but I'm curious, how often are all of you giving this a high rating actually going to revisit this?”

“ but I can't say that it justifies it being good music”

I’m not stanning for this that hard but I don’t get this logic. Even if it’s true that this is a one and done listen, which I don’t think it will be for me at least, 1 uber special impactful listen > 20 quite pleasant listens. Re-listenability / ease of listenablity often corolate with, but aren’t uniquely indicative of, “good music” (imo).

I could see the argument that it’s easier to form a personal connection with a briefer / easier record than a longer / more challenging record (heck, most (all) of my 5s are easy listening short bois) but I don’t think that’s the point you’re making. I’m getting pedantic now tho so I’ll go sit myself in a corner and count some rocks.

I haven't heard a single track from it but I think it's likely an instant classic

Yep. I'm not stepping forward in defence of this (might need to hear it first!), but as a general point you speak the truth

"1 uber special impactful listen > 20 quite pleasant listens"

I guess this is where I disagree as I take the opposite stance, which is what makes everyone's rating systems different. a big reason for me holding an album in high regard is because it makes me want to revisit it over and over again while feeling the same impact.

also, I should revoke my use of 'good music'. what I really meant was 'replayable music' as you pointed out.

plenty of albums have exceptional replay value without hitting the highs of something you end up playing once in a blue moon, so yeah I guess that’s just a different way of evaluating music

However, I find the former (for me) often might last months, yet the latter can last many years even if those listen take a hell of a lot longer to accumulate
