Thanks so much for the kind words
I’ve got some new music coming in the next month or two, I’m just finishing up vocals and mixing/mastering
I’d love to make a full LP and I definitely will eventually but I’d like to find other people to collaborate with for that. I’m doing a 4 song EP currently and already feeling pretty intense burnout doing everything myself on top of my day job but it’ll happen one day

sorry for quadrupleposting, I meant to write something about this before releasing but anyway this is an EP that feels more like an album to me maybe not in length but in terms of overall vision and amount of time and effort I put into it. I want anyone who listens to be able to interpret the music and lyrical themes themselves, but I will just say that it’s a sort of concept album/EP broadly centered around an existential crisis and music follows the tone of the lyrics and is sometimes a metaphor for what is happening in the lyrics if that makes any sense. And it’s sometimes purposely incohesive or jarring at times. Now whether that intention actually works in execution is up to listers to determine lol. Anyways thanks so much to anyone that takes the time to listen, I’m very interested in your thoughts!

Your voice and the production really shines on the new one.

I haven't delved into the lyrics or themes, or really done anything beyond get a surface glimpse from one listen, but I'll say that the EP goes in some unexpected directions and still holds up well.

I’ve been curious to hear what people think of the genre detours, it does tie into the themes of the lyrics but I can see it being kind of jarring to the listener even if that’s kind of the point

i'm not sure i'm feeling the shift so far, but keep going! the trap beat(?) on track 2 was an interesting shift but it was jarring

Understandable lol. I tried doing something more experimental this time where the overall theme is an existential crisis and the music changes to follow the tone of the lyrics. I really wanted to try and push myself to venture outside of my comfort zone and find a more original sound because as much as I love my last project and am really proud of it, I sometimes think of that meme of “we have McDonald’s at home” and this EP is “we have La Dispute at home” lmao. So for better or worse I feel like I made something that doesn’t sound like anything else out there this time. But I can definitely see it being jarring!

I still love the vocals and lyrics on the new one, and I still jam this EP very regularly so I’m always gonna follow music you put out, but the new one probably just isn’t my thing with the hip-hop/trap beats. I respect you for going for something unique though!

No worries I appreciate the honesty! I really wanted to try something more experimental and outside of my comfort zone this time but it’s not like a permanent genre shift or anything. I’ve already started on my next project and it’s a lot closer to my last release.

Update for anyone that cares: rather than taking a break like I normally do I started on a new project immediately after releasing my last project. It’s five songs and I’m about 80% done with the instrumentals. I went back to my 2023 sound for this one. It’s a little heavier and a little catchier and even more guitar-driven but along those same lines. I think going forward I’ll probably alternate back and forth between a more traditional post-hardcore/midwest emo/metalcore sound and something more electronic and experimental. I think if you liked my 2023 EP you will like this one! I’m hoping to have a single ready in the next couple months and release the full thing late this year or early next year. Also one of the songs and probably the lead single is a (greatly expanded and rearranged) remake of a demo song I posted here on Sputnik in like 2012 called “The Problem with Porcupines.” I think it’s still on my old SoundCloud page but I’ll put the old version as the b-side for the single. Anyway thanks to everyone who has taken the time to listen to my music, it’s greatly appreciated
