Yeah I completely agree, calling this overproduced is weird as shit.
This style of music can only benefit from having crisp/clear production like this, and nothing about this sounds inorganic or like the production is taking away from the music here.
My biggest issue with overproduction usually pertains to vocals, usually sounding completely inorganic/like I'm not even listening to a human voice anymore but a weird computer-interpretation of a human voice being spat back at me sounding soulless and flat. Definitely not happening here.

Yeah like the new Hypno5e has quite a few "breathy" vocals that are way to angelic to considered organic and it really detracts from some of the imagery and soundscapes they are putting down. Here on Exul everything fits

I'm not an audiophile but I think calling this overproduced is a bit of a stretch. There's still a human element here. I'd consider an album overproduced when that element is lost like on a Polyphia record. This isn't brutal death metal an uber raw mix would sound off. Also Suspyre is straight fire.

So we're 7 pages in and nobody has mentioned the clean vocals. Then I shall be the first. Vocals. The clean ones. Laughably cheesy. Bwahaha. This album is like a beautiful woman with severe halitosis. Can't get too close.

Yeah the cleans are really not great, they remind me of when the faceless tried to do it on autotheism or becoming a ghost, just really does not fit.

They're not bad per se, but it's very mid range which makes it sound flat it may have worked if they were doing forceful power metal vocals but I digress

Album is dece, but they're not doing anything new. At this point, they are just repeating themselves (on Urn they kinda did as well, but I can see some details being different there, and the songwriting felt balanced and more focused, so yeah).

Urn was a record where i think they took a step back and tried to focus on all of their ideas and let everything be more cohesive, where as previously some of their ideas could be a bit unfocused. Exul takes this cohesive approach to song writing and taking it above and beyod and this is the band maturing and streamlining their ideas and talent

I don't buy that complaining about cleans reflects any property of the actual thing. Like that the vocalist does a bad job in any meaningful sense. Your aesthetic just happens to clash with this particular kinds of voice. It's basically random.
^ agree. Streamlining is not good thing though. artists should operate at the edge of their ability at all times.
Imo Urn wasn't even trying. This one is but it's less passionate than the first two albums.

Urn had one memorabke track on it in Eyrie. By streamlining i just meant that everythings more focused and a bit less jumbled.

A well written review.
The album is a little bit too experimental or special for me. It reminds me of those songs you hear in disney movies
Favorite song: Equus

Also complaining they have no riffs when the guitars are used mostly as a backdrop for the bass and strings to build melody around, and that being said they are still pretty sick and riffy at times. Big ol skill issue I tell ya what.
