do you always do this irl? I can understand doing so if there's doubt based on their appearance and you can never really be sure... but always? Me and the wife do use 'they / them' when we're talking amongst ourselves and there's doubt, although as I clearly live a very sheltered existence (lol?) I am yet to actually have a direct conversation with anyone where I thought this amendment in language was necessary / appropriate. I haven't ever been told that I've used the incorrect pronoun either, so hopefully I have not. Then again, I am not exactly a social butterfly, so my sample size is probably fairly small.
