"is this unironically the most successful attempt at switching genres that a rapper has ever had?"
Possibly with the biggest step up in quality as well but you also got Igor, Awaken My Love, bucnh of others I probably neverf heard of
|
| |
didn't Igor have some rapping on it though? I don't really remember. and personally did not think Awaken My Love was anywhere near this in quality

opener is unironically a more interesting take on dark side of the moon than anything on that flaming lips does dsotm record
|
| |
which DSOTM songs does it sound like tho
|
| |
it's partly a rendition of Great Gig in the Sky. vocal solo at the end and everything
|
| |
i will say the critical comparisons to psych-rock/pink floyd/tame impala are totally overblown. the influence is there but this music stands on its own.
|
| |
ah I see. I haven't actually heard that one yet
|
| |
I think most comparisons from one artist to another are overblown aside from rare examples of an artist just totally ripping off someone else. it's just easy to make lazy comparisons instead of describing an album on its own terms
|
| |
Art influences art, i don’t think it’s bad form to analyze influences and discuss them, but to use an apparent influence as a way to gatekeep or otherwise deny that the artist using the influence doesnt have something new or interesting to say with their work is lazy crit to say the least
