delicate, evocative simplicity, coupled with a surprisingly diverse tapestry of embellishments. Impressive cohesion between all the ideas as they drift in and out. I've played it three times already and have barely even noticed a transition

y'know I said that silly thing about avoiding direct comparisons, because hmm...

which album am I talking about here? Oh.

Successful follow-up either way

Thus Is Why is fs the best track to my ears after 2 plays, but the album seems pretty consistent overall, albeit less adventurous than this one. Definitely other highlights, particularly love her vocals on Puddle, and Shell prob rounds out my early top 3

I love Puddle, it's certainly one of my faves thus far

despite the parallels with this, I have to say that you may be right with the ambition etc. on that this has some really warped tangents that SHOULDN'T work in a 'whoa, how did we get here?' sort of way. The new one is perhaps based more in refinement, instead of any sort of bold progression

that's fine by me tho!

Veeeeeeery tight album so far but Exhaust the Topic is stunning. First o fuq what is this moment that brought back hearing this alb for the first time. Crazy good song
Wasn't expecting her to either retread or top this, but am not at all disappointed so far

exhaust didn't stand out to me for the first few plays but i'm very into it now. still don't think it - or anything rly - stands up to the highs of sadness residue and some of the other moments on here, but that's a minor critcism, very high bar to clear. i love the album overall and that it has its own distinct sound/style. i honestly wasn't sure how much i'd like it after the singles she released, and the eps prior to had me thinking she might go in a totally different direction

Just realized Pitchfork has bad takes on Saya Gray. What a shocker.

Sadness Residue and Empathy are still her best tracks imo, but the new one is up to scratch with this one's baseline and I think the floor might be higher. Doesn't have quite the same mercurial charm, but then again what does
The moody songs are so fking good - 10 Ways and How Long Can You Keep Up a Lie? both growing heavily

I cannot get Exhaust out of my head. That moment leading into the chorus where she sings: “Will you call? Do I care? Dig a grave, fill the space. Fall in love, fuck a friend, let it go, look for god. Lost. Lost, yeah lost” is a melody I keep catching myself humming or thinking about. Maybe my favourite moment on the album now.

Puddle, 10 Ways and Exhaust are the holy trinity but the sheer consistency is sneaking up on me.

Probably gonna bump it up. I just need that shiny review thread to encourage me

i think this is it, yeah. the opener was my clear favourite for the first couple spins and i still absolutely love it but those 3 are just peak. shell of a man and how long can you keep up a lie are also super. haven't rly connected with the closer as strongly yet but still like it. rn the only two tracks i think are noticeably much weaker than the rest are: line back 22 and H.B.W.

Eeh!
rev coming soon, enjoyably fiddly artist to write on - the key deal is all there, but it has too many facets and it's too easy to say too much!!
