After first listen, I'm not sure I like it as much as Death Spells but it's damn close. Another fantastic album, might grow even more on me.

Rating is too low, the review sounds like you've never heard shoegaze, odd.
Hrm.

Both Drift and this are great. DB is obviously better tho.

What a great title track. The way they make one piano note sound so sinister and then have it payoff in such a short amount of time.

Listening to this on headphones is an experience. When the distorted bass tone kicks in at 1:40 on Death is a Relief.

I’ve only had one listen so far and although there’s a lot to enjoy, I can’t understand their use of harsh vocals. It feels like someone dragged and dropped them over tracks, because they just don’t feel cohesive or organic in the way they’re delivered or implemented. Like a residual. Maybe I’ll get used to them but it was really glaring to me at times.

Honestly I think Deafheaven has used them worse ways. Sorry to keep bringing them up but they kinda use them in similar ways. But they use them sparingly and strategically here so I like it

This is really nice. Songs like Lift Your Head remind me of Guilty of Everything era Nothing and that is no bad thing!

The only thing I kind of miss here is more variety in harmonies / chord progressions. I know it’s probably unavoidable in this genre but they just use very similar chord combinations in all of the songs. And yeah, they work pretty well, but still. The sound and the overall vibe is much more impressive than the composition.

i kinda also agree with the harsh vox comment. they felt more tasteful on death spells and here, they can kinda rub me the wrong way. probably bc the mixing on this is far tidier than DS
