"I like this, but it’s definitely patience-testingly long for how uniform the vibe is in classic Beach House fashion"
Basically how I'm feeling after my second spin. It really is good but I know I won't have the urge to throw this on repeat like I have for Big Thief. Feeling a 3.8 right now

Terrible score, pretty good review.

I think the same. Review is well written, just disagree with the rating- the fact that it's the outlier low score at the bottom of Metacritic tells you something.
I have not been this in love with an album for years. Listening 4 or 5 times a day at the moment - and I've not been a huge Beach House fan until now - this is only the third album of theirs I rate 4 or above.

unless you think the review is in bad faith this argument doesnt make sense
|

I don't think you'd even have a 4.5 here if you cherry picked only the best songs. This is just baffling okay. Gotta hear it more but both times I listened so far were borderline torturous

I don't think that would help

This is a fucking damn good review

both big thief & beach house are boring tbf

Why not? Can't a review be well-written but still be disagreed with? Johnny writes eloquent reviews, but I just happen to disagree with some of the conclusions he reaches (including the score).
|
| |
will compromise by saying that the score wasn't actually a conclusion the rev drew or that i even felt able to draw accurately after writing it - came from an avg of my EP ratings, so if you feel that the text is calling for something a smidge more generous, you're probably right
that said, i still won't set this above a 3.5

lol ofc but the fact that it's the lowest score on metacritic says nothing except he didnt like it as much as others. unless u just meant johnny has bad taste

i will check this but wasnt super impressed with what i hard from the first EP

aaahhh... now I get your meaning - sorry, misunderstood you. I drew attention to the Metacritic thing because it somewhat validated my objectively correct gushing score and revealed Johnny's score to be silly and wrong (despite any valid criticisms he may have happened to make).

i like this better than all their formative years stuff, i could never make it through those albums. this is actually not boring, i might even bump the rating
Edit: bumped
